The Effects Of Organic Fertilizer On Organic Tomato Production

The aim of this research was to make clear the effect of different fertilizer prescriptions and cutting down the amount of cattle excrement usage on the growth, product , quality of organically grown tomatoes. The research was done in the greenhouse of the Crab Island plantation in Beijing. The effects of the 8 organic fertilizer prescriptions , which containing different proportions of microorganism treated organic fertilizer, were tested on the tomatoes planted in the green house mentioned above. Considering the bad influence of using too much organic fertilizer may have on the soil, only 50% of cattle excrement was added to the fertilizer formulas, except that 100% was added to NutriSmart. The results of the research was as follows:All the 8 formula tested were in accordance with the requirements of organic planting, The formula that Feather powder 1+50% cattle excrement has the best effect, the product of tomato was 12.86% higher and 2839.3 yuan per mu more income than the control. When using the formula Fish meal 1+50% cattle excrement or NutriSmart, the product of tomato was 2.86% and 2.35% higher and 557.65 and 473.35 yuan per mu than the control accordingly.The formula Feather powder I and Fish meal I, which containing 50% less cattle excrement, can improve the fruit product, enhance the growth of the roots and increase the economic benefit. The effects of the treatment with NutriSmart is good and stable, but the quality of tomato fruits was not as good as that treated with other formula.The product of tomato has some relations with its growth.. The tomato plants which grow well before picking off the tips have relatively higher products, but there is little relation between the tomato product and quality.
