With the development of nuclear technology, radioactive substances and ionizing radiation equipments are widely used in many industries and the people's daily lives. The probability of contacting radioactive material of people is increasing. Especially, the possibility of harmfulness of ionizing radiation on the human body is increasing. In order to reduce or avoid-ray irradiation, the most direct way is to use radiation-shielding materials to shield the radiation. There are many shielding materials in present, the shielding property of the materials become better and better.On the basis of predecessors, this paper used Monte Carlo method and genetic algorithm to propose an optimized design method of shielding materials. firstly, using MCNP program simulated the X-ray machine, and recorded the different energy X-rays at the exit, and calculated the best ratio of distribution of the material by genetic algorithm, and used the optimized material to shielding the X-ray. Using obtained shielding effectiveness compare to the experimental result, the result showed this method was right. Secondly, used this optimized design method to design materials for shielding mixed neutron andγ-rays,and the result was satisfied.
