Mechanical system requires to actualize the function in specifically condition. But, in fact, mechanical equipment is abnormal and invalid under some circumstance to affect the function of the equipment badly. Gearbox is the important transmission device in a mechanical system. The vibration analysis and fault diagnosis of gearbox is a important task in the field of the fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment. The paper introduces the traits and the research actuality of the fault diagnosis of gearbox, discusses the theory and technique of the fault diagnosis of gearbox., and analysis methods of vibration signal and fault diagnosis.Using the technique of virtual instrument and considering the vibration traits and vibration analysis of gearbox, the paper researches and develops a module of the fault diagnosis of gearbox by LabVIEW. In the R&D, using LabVIEW to develop five parts,the signal generating module, and storage module, the data disposal and analysis module etc, and realize the basic function of the vibration analysis of gearbox.The system software has characters of expansibility, modularization, user defining instrument function. Users may define function of instruments according to individual demand. If improvement of system is required, users may add or modify software avoiding purchasing a new instrument.
