Since the carrying capacity and running speed of freight train is continuously increasing, the freight car bogie becomes more and more important. Firstly, the major types of freight bogies in China and abroad are introduced. Then on the basis of the prediction on the development tendency for freight bogies, and by considering the railway line conditions in China, a detail design for welded frame bogie is given. The major parameters such as the longitudinal stiffness of journal box rubber pad, the forces of the Lenoir friction damper and the friction forces of center plate and side bearing between carbody and bogie are analyzed in detail.The nonlinear dynamic model of the tank car G70 equipped with type 2D axle welded frame bogie is set up. The hunting stability, curving performance and ride performance are studied. Then a set of bogie suspension parameters for tank car G70 are given. Finally, the roller rig test for G70 tank car with the developed prototype of welded frame bogie is carried out, and the suspension parameters and dynamic performance are measured. Through the theory analysis and roller rig tests, it indicates that the type 2D axle welded frame bogie is suitable for the running on the Chinese railways.
