Application Research Of Solar Energy In Poor Areas: Case Study Of Congo-Brazzaville

Solar energy is an inexhaustible resource, the sun produces vast amounts of renewable solar energy that can be collected and converted energy. Until recent research and findings on the energy situation of the Republic of Congo, the results show that there is a massive shortfall in relation to energy needs of the population. To try to bridge this deficiency Country imports electricity from Democratic Republic of Congo. In fact the Republic of Congo is full of many advantages in the use of solar energy because of its have a very hot climate throughout the year, where we also focus our study.In this paper we have two main goals: Firstly make a thorough analysis of the energy situation in Congo and propose the alternative pragmatic solutions; and secondly is a practical case study with following title: Implementation of solar cooling project for hot and humid climates in south (Pointe-Noire) of Republic of Congo.The case study is presenting a solar house built in south (Pointe-Noire) city of Republic of Congo where the summer is long, hot and humid. The house was designed appropriately for the climate and was constructed with local building materials where possible. A multifunctional solar system was used and a method for indoor ventilation was proposed. The design included double walls and a triple roof in order to remove heat by ventilation of the building envelope. The external walls were clad with unglazed bricks to allow evaporative cooling. The house has been monitored since completion and more than one year of data is available. Analysis of the monitored data shows that the solar techniques proposed in this design are effective in a hot and humid climate. Effective ventilation strategies for the improvement of thermal comfort are also discussed.
