Elastic foaming material is widely used in the impact damping, noise insulation and other fields because of their porous properties. Reducing the material weight and improving material properties always are the goal pursued by the industrial sector, and the bubble material significantly broaden its application in the engineering field. At the present, the production technology of rubber foam is ahead of the basic research, formulations and processes mostly rely on experience and a large number of experiments. In this paper, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) has been used as the substrate, azodicarbonamide AC as blowing agent, to systematically quantify process the preparation of EPDM foam and the relations between the foam structure and properties. At present the most of EPDM foam rubber is reinforced with low reinforcing carbon black filler, can avoid the difficultly posed of the fine particles of carbon black and the question of the high viscosity. But the light-colored rubber products are needed more and more in the modern industry, therefore silica is used as the reinforcing filler, research about the preparation process of EPDM foam rubber and molding conditions on the foaming process has been made in this paper. Then change the amount of the accelerator, filler, blowing agent and paraffin oil, curing properties, mechanical properties and scanning electron microscopy have been made to analyze various factors on the foam structure and properties. Summarized the effects law of formulation factors on the foaming, expect to find the most appropriate dosage formulations. Finally, the compression behavior of EPDM rubber foam with different densities has been studied through the compression stress-strain curves. Analysis of the EPDM foam energy absorbing characteristics has been made with the energy absorption capacity W, the energy absorption efficiency of the ideal parameters E and ideal parameter I.
