Recombinant bamboo material is a kind of new product since the 90s. Recent years, recombinant bamboo material has received more and more attention for its higher utilization ratio and excellent physical and chemical properties. However, the nature textures of recombinant bamboo produced by traditional manufacturing process can be damaged to varying degrees. The poor surface quality made it difficult to substitute a higher grade wood. The development of new bamboo engineering material:recombinant bamboo made from laminated circumferential sections provide a new way for bamboo efficient utilization.Aimed at the bamboo defects as hollow core, conical shape, the physical and mechanical property difference in bamboo outer, inner and joint, this study developed a new material both with bamboo natural macrographic structure and high strength to enhance bamboo utilization efficiency and economic benefit. Full using the small amount of cutting edge of bamboo circumferential sections as manufacturing units, the material was made by high-frequency heat pressing after assemble gumming bamboo circumferential sections in the same direction. By scientific structure design, the utilization ratio of bamboo can reach 60%-70%. Recombinant bamboo made from laminated circumferential sections break the traditional way of assemble and heat press pattern. It had a good mechanical performance and can maintain the native state of bamboo utmostly. After processing it can be used in engineering structure and decorating field to replace some precious wood and various artificial boards.This study designed the test method about different factors such as adhesive, resin added, and heat pressing conditon, and investigated the influences of different process conditions on main physical and mechanical properties of the board. The properties were compared with similar board as laminated veneer lumber, structural bamboo-wood composite board, concrete template using bamboo plywood. By analyzing the physical and mechanical properties of boards produced under different conditions, such as bonding strength, thickness swelling rate, longitudinal static bending strength, elasitic modulus, this study discussed the effective way to improve board performance, and develop a reasonable manufacturing technology of recombinant bamboo made from laminated circumferential sections.The study also analyzed the influence that bamboo diameter, thickness, split portion count and cutter radius to the bamboo utilization ratio, and discussed some issues as how to improve the utilization of bamboo resources in order to reduce the production cost.This study is a part of the "Research and Development of Key Technology and Equipment about Efficient Use of Bamboo to Replace Wood" project which is a section of the "Eleventh Five-Year" National Science and Technology Support Programme "Development of Multifunctional Agriculture Equipment and Facilities". The bamboo panels product made from laminated circumferential sections will put into trial production in Hunan Hengdun Technology Group. As there is no recombinant laminated circumferential bamboo product quality standards at home and aboard, this study also formulated the enterprises standard of "Bamboo Panels Made from Laminated Circumferential Sections", in order to strengthen the production and quality control.
