With the huge progress of global economy, population, the shortage of energy becomes more and more serious. Meanwhile, environment pollution and destruction caused by using traditional energy become more and more severe. So, it is very important and urgent t to find and use renewable, clean, environmental energy. The importance of exploiting biomass energy and the research progress of diesel substitute fuels are summarized, and also the production, characteristic and using of the two biomass fuel– biodiesel and biooil. Different mixing ratios fuels of biodiesel/diesel mixed fuels and biooil/ diesel emulsified fuels are prepared, their thermogravimetric characteristics are analyzed by TGA.Biodiesel/diesel mixed fuels with different camellia oil biodiesel mixing ratios are fueled into the diesel engine. The results indicate that: camellia oil biodiesel can be mixed with diesel well; diesel engine runs normally with mixed fuels, power outputs have no significant changes; fuel consumption of mixed fuels is a little more than diesel; HC emission decreases; CO emission decreases at low-medium loads but increases at heavy loads; NOx emission increases at first and decreases at end at moderate speed but decreases at high speed.Emulsified fuels with different bio-oil mixing ratios are prepared and fueled to a R180 diesel engine. The results indicate that: bio-oil/diesel emulsified fuels are relatively steady; diesel engine can runs with emulsified fuels. However, fuel consumption is more than diesel while thermal efficiency is lower; HC and CO emission increase while NOx emission decreases. It is funded that after some hours of using the fuels, emission change abnormally result of wearing and rusty atomizer. These experiment results have important significances in further research of using bio-oil in diesel engine. The differences between biodiesel and biooil are summarized and analyzed, the technology problems of using the two biomass fuel are analyzed and their future applications are previewed.
