The topics on conversion and utilization of methane and carbon dioxide are important issues in tacking the global warming effect from the two greenhouse gases. In the present study, purely plasma and plasma catalytic activation of methane and carbon dioxide were investigated for syngas production. For purely plasma process, the effects of discharge power, discharge gap,the length of the DBD area, total flow rates,CH4/CO2 ratios in the feed,as well as the concentration of the balanced gas of Ar were studied.Ar in the feed has great effects on the conversion of the reaction. It is showed that the increase of discharge power, total flow rates or input power could increase methane conversion. And the H2/CO ratio is decided only by the CH4/CO2 ratio. It is good to the conversion of the reactants with narrower discharge gap(1 mm),as well as longer discharge area(200mm).The synergism between the catalyst and DBD plasma was studied in this work on the other hand. The activities of catalysts were studied on the certain carrier Al2O3.And the addition of Cu in the catalyst Ni/Al2O3,the conversions of the reactants increased which depends on the content of Ni.When Cu-Ni/Al2O3 catalyst was filled in the discharge gap at 450℃,the synergism between the catalyst and DBD plasma was achieved.Conversions of CH4 and CO2 were 79%and 85%,respectively.Selectivity to CO and H2 was, respectively, 76%and 57%,which was higher than that of CO2 reforming CH4 via DBD with an empty discharge gap,as well as the catalyst.
