Assessment Of Rural Human Settlement Security In Sandy Desertification Areas Based On Ecological Footprint Method

Human settlement in sandy desertification areas is the living space and external support system for residents, also the basis for the development of the human society in sandy desertification. It is closely related to the impoverishment of residents and the desertification, dust storms and other environmental problems.Scientifically assessing the security of human settlement in sandy desertification areas is of great theoretical and practical significance to the protection of human survival security , the development of socio-economic and the restoration of ecosystems.Focusing on the subject of Security of human settlement assessment in sandy desertification areas,this thesis further explores and studies from the perspective of theory,methodology and practice.The layout of this thesis includes seven chapters.The introduction part is literature review,as for the emergence of living environment safety of human being theory,maily introducing the backgrounds,concepts,contents of study,and assessing methodology and so on.It reviews the course of the theory's study, and further discusses about its problem and developing way.The body parts of the thesis introduce the situation of study area,and the researching methodology and technical way,and amend the ecological footprint model by constructing the ecological consumption accounts,and then apply the amended model in Guantan Village in Yanchi County, Ningxia and further analyze the result of the calculation.Finally, we construct the assessing model of living environment safety of human being in sandy desertification areas by introducing the index of living environment safety of human being,and apply it to assess living environment safety of human being in Guantan Village.Expecting to provide decision-making basis for the development of socio-economic and restoration of ecosystems, after scenario analysis we propose to the stategies in the protection of living environment safety of human being.The ecological footprint in Guantan Village was studied during 2006 and the index of living environment safety of human being was calculated. Base on ecological footprint,living environment safety of human being was evaluated.Then we got following conclusions.(1)Through the calculations of the ecological footprint in Guantan Village and the ecological carrying capacity, ecological supply and demand were compared and analysed.It showed that human settlements in Guantan Village located insecurity in the state.(2) The index of living environment safety of human being in Guantan Village was calculated by making use of the assessing model of living environment safety of human being in sandy desertification areas. The result of calculation was I hs 7.4> 1.It showed that the local living environment safety of human being was controllable,but in the state of deterioration.(3)The short-term appropriate ecological compensation,the long-term restructuring of the industrial structure and the land, increasing land carrying capacity, expanding living space and protecting living environment safety of human being were proposed to improve the living environment for residents and improve the living standards of residents.
