Polyether type aromatic polymers are a class of high performance materials known for their excellent combination of chemical, physical and mechanical properties. This class of advanced materials is currently widely used in aerospace, optics, electronics and other high technology fields. However, it is difficult for conventional poly(aryl ether)s to be used as thin films and coating materials because of their poor solubility. Therefore, much attention has been focused on the preparation of soluble aromatic polyether. In this dissertation, the design, synthesis and characterization of novel fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s were described.Firstly, a novel monomer, 1,2-bis(4-(4-fluorobenzoyl)phenoxy)-hexafluorocyclobutane(7) was designed and prepared. The fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s containing perfluorocyclobutane(PFCB) (8a-b) were synthesized by the polycondensation of monomer 7 with aromatic diphenols. Then the characterization of fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s (8a-b) by FI-IR, 1H NMR and 19F NMR was carried out. Finally, The solubility, thermal properties, molecular weight and morphology of the fluorinated poly(aryl ether)s were investigated.
