Ecological Footprint,as a direct and easily manipulative sustainable development index and quantitative evaluating method, has been widely used in estimating sustainable development.Research on Ecological Footprint of cities is one of effective instruments in commanding sustainable development status. So,it has much more importance to research Ecological Footprint of cities. This thesis mainly study Ecological Footprint of Chongqing Municipality based on the facts of Chongqing Municipality and Ecological Footprint model. The whole thesis is divided into six parts totally. In part one, the documentary summaries of Ecological Footprint are stated simply. In part two, the background and significance of the thesis and a documentary summaries of the focal points are stated simply. Based on this, the clue and method and essential problems are illustrated. In part three, Ecological Footprint model including its conceptions, theories, calculation and analysis methods, index system, advantage and shortage are stated simply. In part four, probing into the calculating methods of Ecological Footprint in Chongqing Municipality. In part five, synthetically analyze Ecological Footprint in Chongqing Municipality from 1997 to 2004,including Ecological Footprint changing current,Ecological Footprint composing,Ecological Footprint diversity exponent and developmental capability.Part six is conclusion and discussion. According to the above-mentioned analyses and studies, we can arrive at the following major conclusions: 1. the calculating methods of Ecological Footprint in Chongqing Municipality based on the facts of Chongqing Municipality and data gained were found.2. After calculating Ecological Footprint of Chongqing Municipality, we found that since Chongqing Municipality directly under the jurisdiction of administration 8 years before, alone with population increasing, economic growth, consumption increasing, the Ecological Footprint and Ecological carrying capacity had rosen, but Ecological Footprint rose more quickly, so huge Ecological deficit appeared and became larger and larger. Ecological Footprint per 10000 yuan became smaller and smaller, but comparing with others areas, it was not optimistic all the same.3. After analyzing the composing of Ecological Footprint of Chongqing Municipality, we found that (1) On Ecological Footprint, the proportion of plowland was the largest, the proportion of fossil energy sources land in the next place, plowland and fossil energy sources land formed the most, the others was very small. For 8 years, plowland and fossil energy sources land areas had increased quickly, woodland and tea garden area had decreased, and the others increased little.(2) On Ecological carrying capacity, the proportion of plowland was the largest, the proportion of woodland and land for construction in the next place. For 8 years, grassland, garden and water area had increased obviously.(3) On the pockety of Ecological deficit, the Ecological deficit of plowland accounted for the most.,fossil energy sources land and grassland in the next place. Woodland, tea garden and land for construction had Ecological surplus, garden, water area reached the balance of the supply and requirement.4. After calculating diversity exponent and developmental capability of Ecological Footprint, we found that diversity exponent and developmental capability had increased.Researched on the relativity between diversity exponent and Ecological Footprint per 10000 yuan and we found that they have obvious negative relativity. Researched on the relativity between developmental capability and gross domestic product per capita and we found that they have obvious plus relativity.
