In this thesis, adsorption of bamboo charcoal (BC) and photocatalytic oxidation of TiO2 were combined to treat phenol in water. The performance of adsorption of bamboo charcoal for phenol in water solution and some influencing factors were investigated; the removal capability of the physical combination of bamboo charcoal and TiO2 for phenol was studied, and the relevant influencing factors were discussed. In addition, TiO2 and TiO2/BC composites prepared by sol-gel method were studied, and the optimum preparation conditions were described. Further more, the adsorption and photocatalytic activity of TiO2/BC for phenol were studied in order to develop a kind of TiO2/BC composites with both good adsorption and favorable photocatalytic degradation. The results show that:(1) Bamboo charcoal possesses favorable adsorption ability for phenol. The adsorption isotherm of phenol tallies with the isothermal adsorption equations of Langmuir and Freundlich. (2) Under aeration condition, bamboo charcoal, TiO2 and light cooperate with each other to remove phenol, consequently the removal rate is increased. (3) The optimum conditions for preparing TiO2 are as follows, pH value=1, n(C2H5OH)/n(TiBuO4)=15, n(H2O)/n(TiBuO4)=3, calefactive speed 10℃/min, sinter temperature 450℃. (4) The adsorption efficiency of TiO2/BC is better than that of singlehanded bamboo charcoal, and TiO2/BC possesses photocatalytic activity. The effects of TiO2/BC for removing phenol at different concentrations are all preferable in the experiment.
