1 -methoxy-2-propanol is a kind of ether solvent which is applied widely, and it is titled on "almighty solvent". In order to resolve the problem of bad selectivity of acid catalyst, a dipping method was used to prepare a kind of solid base catalyst composed of zeolite carrier and KOH, which was used in synthesizing 1-methoxy-2-propanol. The process has important academic significance and practicable value. As for the solid base catalyst which was prepared by dipping method, effects of various factors during the preparation process, such as carries, load, load quantity, dipping temperature, dipping time, agitation speed, KOH concentration, baking aura, baking temperature, baking time, on the structures and catalytic performances were investigated. The suitable conditions for preparing the catalyst was confirmed: the carrier was zeolite, the load was KOH, the concentration of KOH was 1.5mol/L, load quantity was 16mmol/g, dipping time was 2 hours, dipping temperature was 50℃, agitation speed was 600 rpm, baking temperature was 600℃, baking time was 3 hours, baking aura was N2.The structure of the catalyst was characterized by TEM, IR, XRD, TPD and BET surface area in the paper, and the characterization effects such as load quantity, activation aura, activation temperature were investigated. Consequently, three conclusions were drawn: the activation center of the catalyst is Al2O3.K2O; the most uppermost factor of the activation is super alkali center; water in the air can compound with the activation center, the activation was fallen greatly. The reaction conditions of synthesizing 1-methoxy-2-propanol by solid base catalyst were investigated. The solid base catalyst was chosen as the catalyst, whose optimal amount was 6 (wt) percent of methanol. The optimal reaction conditions were as follow: reacfants proportion 5:1. reaction temperature 3h, reaction pressure 0.30.4MPa, agitation speed 500rpm. Under the above-mentioned conditions, the conversion ratio for PO reached 99% and the selectivity for 1-methoxy-2-propanol reached 98%. The catalyst showed a partial deactivation after reaction. The reasons for deactivation were confirmed by XRX), TPD and surface area. However the drop of activity can be slowered through regeneration.
