| Geographic Information System (GIS) has been more and more popular within recent years. Due to the difference of the applied domain, the software platform and the methods by which the spatial was collected, data format transformation is barely avoided. Because of the indispensability of spatial data for GIS, data quality control is necessarily carried out during the data format transformation. The development of internet/intranet technology make it be requisite to make the most of the data for sharing spatial data on the internet/intranet.The basic knowledge of spatial data, Java, XML, spatial data standard, the technology of Java, XML, data exchange, data control and data transformation on the internet/intranet is introduced in this paper. Some methods about transformation from circle (or arc) to line and of redundant point discovery are issued and the procedure of data format transformation is described briefly. Conclusions based on the research are made and some suggestions about succedent research on this subject are put forward in the end.
