Objective:1.Reference upon the essence of Taoism thinking and Chinese culture characteristics to uncover the representative techniques in TCM gentle bone-setting fields.2.Explore practical solutions to the common high safety risk problems that are currently prevailing in the orthopaedic treatments via the infusion of advanced clinical thinking and technique developments,and at the same time expand the applicability of bone-setting to wider patient treatments.3.Develop a complete set of innovative,unique,and systematic approach in both academic and practices of Chinese Gentle bone-setting field based Chinese traditional thinking,and in line with modern medical and scientific principles,which serves as the foundation to further advancements of TCM gentle bone-setting methodologies.4.Carry out in-depth research on the theories,diagnosis methods,clinical treatments,and innovations of Gentle bone-setting techniques.Methods:This study combines the research on past literatures,medical theories and technical methods to discuss current gentle bone-setting practices in the world,and explores the practicality of constructing a Gentle bone-setting academic system based on TCM and Taoist thoughts and techniques.1.Literature research:Through keyword searching using reference words such as"Bone-setting","Bone-setter","Gentle Bone-setting","Chiropractic","Osteopathy" and"Physical Therapy" on websites such as Google,Wikipedia,PubMed,CNKI and WANFANG DATA,many literatures about the development histories of traditional bonesetting worldwide have been closely examined and referenced upon,to understand and clarify the historical context of the developments,thereby identifying the unique characteristics associated with different historical periods.This facilitates the study of the evolution of traditional bone-setting towards the mainstream techniques widely used in clinical treatments in modern medicine.TCM orthopaedic practice history and developments are classified and reviewed by focusing on studying the origin,technical specialities,and practicality in clinical treatments of seven representative schools of TCM orthopaedics.In combination with the detailed investigation of ancient Chinese medical textbooks and documentations,this research objectively discusses the status of different schools of flexible bone-setting in the world.2.Medical theories research:This research emphasises on the study of clinical innovation,safety and effectiveness of treatments based on a unique academic perspective that promoting continued existence,innovation,and evolvements of TCM schools requires the incorporation of cultural essence.The research focus the discussion on OUBT’s(Oriental Ultra Light Bonesetting Technique)successful combination of Taoism thinking,biomechanical principles,medical scientific theories,and traditional gentle bone-setting techniques to create the foundation that pave the new path for innovations in gentle bonesetting fields.3.Technical method exploration:By utilising the OUBT theory and technics as set out in the book "Oriental Ultra-Light Bone-Setting Technique" as a blueprint,this study showcases a relatively matured advancement in flexible bone-setting and tendon-setting methods and the technical details.It validated the function,form,feasibility,and effectiveness of OUBT technical executions.Results:Based on the findings and results from literature research,medical theory research,technical method explorations and clinical findings,it is concluded that:1.In the three main representative streams of bone-setting schools(Chiropractic,Osteopath and Physical therapy),all exists slow,light and pain-free gentle manipulation techniques.In ancient Chinese medical texts,gentle bone-setting techniques have been documented.In modern TCM bone-setting techniques,there exists other schools of bonesetting techniques which incorporate the"three small" principle(small angle,force,and distance)during spinal treatments.2.OUBT theoretical and clinical methods have validated that traditional Taoist ideology and Chinese cultural essences can be systematically integrated with gentle bonesetting techniques during patient treatments.3.OUBT is founded based on the important hypothesis of human soft tissue viscoelasticity.Its unique reference to material and biomedical science principles have demonstrated its success in applying scientific evidence to form the underlying structure of its theoretical foundation.4.OUBT has constructed a relatively matured theoretical system with its own patient treatment techniques.5.OUBT’s distinct manipulation techniques has guaranteed its capability in avoiding the safety risk exposed to bone-setting treatments.This breakthrough of bone-setting bottleneck allows OUBT to widen its target audiences to vulnerable groups such as elderly,pregnant women,children and the disabled.6.OUBT has originated the theory and unique perspective that 3-dimensional transmission of forces between neighbouring structure has resulted in the shifting of bone structure,which has been the direct causes to thinking has been preliminarily constructed.2.The theories,techniques,and clinical application of OUBT has demonstrated significant innovations from traditional gentle bone-setting practices inherited from TCM,which serves as the foundation to future innovations in both medical theory and clinical practice.3.The founding of OUBT system have established three important achievements that proves the inheritance of oriental gentle bone-setting techniques from TCM practices and invented five new concepts that initialised the revolution in the bone-setting fields.1)Three Achievements:Focused on the inheritance and fusion of Taoism into modern medical practices.Uncovered and inherited representative TCM gentle bone-setting techniques from Ancient Chinese Medical Journals"Yizong Jinjian".Followed the principles of medicine,physics,and biomedical science,and combined the bone-setting theories and approaches from both traditional Chinese and modern Western medicines.2)Five Inventions:Integrated Taoist ideology and culture into the development of bone-setting methodology and found the key for the innovation and development of gentle bone-setting technology in both concepts and methods.Created a new TCM academic system focusing on flexibility and softness of operation based on gentle bone-setting theories.Originated the third diagnosis principle"Structural Observation Treatment" after TCM"Symptom Observation Treatment"and the western medicine "Disease Observation Treatment" based on the biomechanical disorders of human tendon and bone structure.The"three observations"formulates a systematic approach to clinical diagnosis,which enables a comprehensive understanding of disease occurrence,development,treatment and prognosis on results.OUBT’s medical principles are based on biomechanical properties,laying out the"three-dimensional displacement phenomenon of bone structure" as the basis of orthopaedic diagnosis and treatments.OUBT puts forward the idea that human musculoskeletal structure acts as"the provider of space cavity to house the organs"and"the executor of human movements".This improves the current medical scope of traditional bone-setting and expanded its applicability to treatment of general diseases caused by mechanical displacements of muscle and bone structures.OUBT has created a complete set of techniques based fully on gentle bone-setting practices and invented the tendon treatment techniques emphasising on the gentle,streamlined and systematic manipulation of tendon and bone structure.OUBT is the first to systematically defined "Gentle Bone-setting" techniques in China,putting forward the main technical characteristics and standardised operational procedures to establish a foundation towards systematic gentle bone-setting treatments.The invention of OUBT is different from the dominance of traditional principle based high speed,large forces,and large fluctuations in the bone-setting practices.It significantly reduces the patient treatment risk and eliminated painful procedures under traditional bonesetting operations,allowing the general application onto higher risk patient groups such as elderly,pregnant
