Research On The Formula Presentation Of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang

Objective:The objective of this paper is to gain a deeper and richer understanding of the usage of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)and clearly present the formula presentation by reviewing both ancient and modern literature,and analyzing cases by both Professor Huang Huang and the author.As deficiency taxation is one of the key presentations this formula is used for,a thorough analysis and presentation of the concept,pathogenesis and clinical relevancy will be presented in the appendix of the paper,in order to show the wide applications this formula can be used for.A few papers have been written on Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)but this will be the first to conduct a study and analysis on the ways in which Professor Huang Huang uses this formula based on a thorough analysis on 467 cases of his personal cases,including the authors cases,in hopes to clearly and thoroughly present the formula presentation of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction).The main objective of determining the formula presentation of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)will be by exploring three main questions.These three questions correlate with the triangular model created by Professor Huang Huang,"which includes the"formula","disease",and"person."(1)What are the main diseases that this formula treats?(2)What are the main symptoms and signs that this formula treats?(3)What kind of constitutional state does this formula treat?Analysis of personal cases used in the author’s clinic in Canada,will aim to offer a separate view and insight into the multifaceted conditions this formula is effective for,in patients presenting in the West.Due to various factors in the West,many patients present with many chronic,deep-seated conditions that can be viewed through the lens of the deficiency taxation concept,thus making Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)a highly applicable formula.Methods:An overview of the formula will be presented by introducing the formula through its origin in the writings of Zhang Zhong-Jing in the Shang Han Za Bing Lun,and exploring the various and multifaceted uses of the formula.Extensive literature review of the formulas use from the Han Dynasty to the present will provide an overview of its use and development.In addition analysis of the main diseases,symptoms,patterns,age group,sex and weight of 467 of Professor Huang Huang’s cases and 35 of the authors,will clearly elucidate the formula presentaion and expand the formulas usage into a wide array of disease complexes.Results:The list of the patient characteristics based on the formula presentation of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)is as follows:(1)Symptoms:Constipation,Insomnia,Abdominal Pain,Vexation,Desire for sweet foods,Fatigue,Abdominal distention,Easily Hungry,Fear of Cold,Poor Appetite.(2)List of Conditions:Constipation,Enteritis,Duodenal Ulcer,Gastritis,Stomach Pain,Stomach Distention,Stomach Cancer,Poor Appetite,Hepatitis B,Breast Hyperplasia,Post-Partum Treatment,Infertility,Amenorrhea.Dysmenorrhea,Menstrual Irregularities,Insomnia,Dizziness,Headaches,Anxiety.(3)Constitutional Regulation:Constitutional Treatment,Post-Surgical Treatment,Preventative Treatment,Malnourishment,Treatment for Susceptibility to Disease.(4)Population Characteristics:Females are more commonly seen.Most common age group is 0-10 years and 31-40 years.Body type:Thin or underweight.Tongue bodies:Red,Pale red,Pale,or Dark red.Tongue Coatings:Thin,Thick,White.Pulse signs:Weak pulse,Wiry pulse,Moderate pulse.Skin Color:Pale,Dry.Complexion:Yellow.Lips:Red,Dark.Abdominal Signs:Umbilical pulsations,Peri-Umbilical pain.Conclusion:For the first time,the representative population,suitable disease and suitable symptoms of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)were identified using a thorough analysis and study of over 500 cases of Professor Huang Huang and the authors.Through this study we were able to find correlations between the formula presentation of Xiao Jian Zhong Tang(Minor Center Fortifying Decoction)and the original lines of the Shang Han Za Bing Lun,and in addition,discover some new and expanded uses of the formula based on this analysis.
