Xin Hai Revolution opened a prelude of Chinese political structure modernizationand meanwhile it had a deep relationship with Chinese literature. After WuchangUprising in1911, the appearance of many novels which described the Revolution of1911has become an important literary phenomenon in the history of literature. Unfortunately,few scholars gave a systematic combing of Xin Hai Revolution novels from1912to1919because of Chinese May Fourth new literature values and the school of Mandarin Duckand Butterfly’s impact. So this paper aims to give a systematic combing and thoroughstudy on Xin Hai Revolution novel texts from1912to1919which published in variousnewspapers and magazines.This paper presents Xin Hai Revolution image’s discourse construction in the novelsduring the early republic of China. The cores of the problems are how and why novels inthe early republic of China narrated Xin Hai Revolution and how this narrative behavioraffected the construction of social ideology and culture during early republic of china.Through the systematic investigation of Xin Hai Revolution narrative in novels ofthe early republic of China, on the one hand, this paper will analyse the narrative formand connotation of Xin Hai Revolution narrative in novels of the early republic of China,discuss Xin Hai Revolution image’s discourse construction and various discoursepower‘s presentation behind the image construction, and explore Xin Hai Revolutionnarrative’s value and significance from the perspective of the history of literature. On theother hand, using the relation of literature, politics and history, it will also investigate theearly republic of China novel’s standpoint to Xin Hai Revolution narrative; discuss howthe novels narrative of the early republic of China affected social thought and culture’sconstruction, then help to realize the culture meaning of Xin Hai Revolution narrative.This research aims to discover the status and significance of novels of the early republicof China in history of literature and deeply understand the pluralistic trend of socialthought and culture during early republic of China.The part of introduction presents related concept interpretations, the value andsignificance of topic, review of research status, purpose and method.The first chapter discusses national consciousness’s expression and the constructionof modern national image. Xin Hai Revolution was carried out under the banner of Expelthe Foreigners and Revive China, so the ethnic discourses of Xin Hai Revolution narrative and modern national discourse have become the most prominent narrativeconnotation. This chapter aims to analyse ethnic discourses of Xin Hai Revolutionnarrative using the aspects of language rhetoric, figures image construction, investigatemultiple intertextual relationships between novel texts and social and historical text, andoffer case analysis based on Recovery Romance of Divine Land and Tears and Flowers.Then by narrative words and behaviors, it will explore Xin Hai Revolution narrative’smodern national image construction which includes national imagination, the Republicimage and experience. What’s more, it will also further investigate the main spirit ofwriters and the process of ideological and cultural construction in early republic ofChina.The second chapter discusses national writing and modern national consciousness’appearance. Novels in early republic of China which described civilians, gentries, andcrowd constituted an important prospect of Xin Hai Revolution narrative. This chapterwill analyse image performance of folks at different levels in Xin Hai Revolution andimage construction of revolutionary as well as speculation revolutionary to explore theirnational criticism and modern national appeal and investigate interrelation of Xin HaiRevolution and national. Through overall analysis, offering case analysis based on LiHanqiu’s Legend of Heros. The national writing under the framework ofRevolution-National showed writers’ modern national consciousness and enrichedliterary national‘s criticism discourse connotation.The third chapter discusses the fate writing and individual consciousness’s reveal.Different from a single subject of revolutionary novels in the late Qing Dynasty, fatewriting under the framework of Revolution-Individuality became an importantcomponent of Xin Hai Revolution novels in early republic of China. This chapteranalyses fate writing in Xin Hai Revolution novels from several aspects, such asnarrative perspective, narrative body and narrative structure, to investigate the defense ofindividual value and dignity. At the same time, it explores the individual consciousness ofpersonal narrative style. The national discourse of Xin Hai Revolution narrative is theconfirmation of personal political rights and its fate writing is the performance of liveindividuals. Xin Hai Revolution novels in early republic of China contained theconstruction of individual in personal tragedy writing which is the appearance of modernindividual generation.The forth chapter discusses revolution and love‘s heteroglossia. This chapter willfocus on the narrative mode of revolution and love; investigate different narrative form’s complex narrative connotation. Compared with the new novels’ single and clear narrativeframework at the end of Qing Dynasty, it was heteroglossia in the early Republic ofChina. There are three main revolution and love writing mode. The first is in therevolutionary context which has revolutionary homophony, such as love merged intorevolution or conquered by revolution. The second is in the individual context which hasromance homophony, such as revolution was merged into love. The third is in multiplecontexts which were interwoven with revolution and love. In dynamic change ofrevolution and love, novels has shown narrators’ various attitudes to revolution whichwas related with complex social background and showed multiple forms of ideology andculture.The conclusion is Xin Hai Revolution narrative of early republic of China novels’significance of literary history and culture.
