Background: Since the rise of evidence-based medicine in 70 s and 80 s last century, the concept of evidence-based practice have produced great influence in various disciplines, Evidence-based practice believed that practice of discipline should be based on the best research evidence. Thus, the concept of evidence-based teaching generated. Evidence-based teaching thought teaching activities should take the current best teaching research as evidence, and consider the personal experience of the teachers and characteristics of the students. Some educators have proposed the framework of evidence-based teaching steps. Selection for nursing teaching method should also be based on the concept of evidence-based practice, choosing the best research literature of teaching method as the basis. However, there hasn’t been anybody putting forward the specific measures for selection and evaluation of teaching method research literature so far, no corresponding evaluation tools either.Objective: Base on the actual situation of the nursing teaching, this study intends to investigate the current status of selection for nursing teaching strategies in our country, to explore evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature. Finally we developed the selection path for nursing teaching strategies guided by the concept of evidence-based practice. In addition, the selection path took the evaluation for reference value of the teaching strategies literature as a key, providing ideas and methods for the implementation of more scientific nursing teaching strategies.Contents and methods: This study was divided into four parts: 1. Literature analysis of the nursing teaching strategy reform in China for 2005-2014 According to a certain criteria of teaching strategies about nursing education, we selected 5939 references from a total of 31163 references concentrating on the nursing,published in China hownet database between 2005.1-2014.12. Afterwards,using a random sample method of investigation,400 references were pick up for further analysis.The analysis indicators are composed of journal name, the source of periodical database, the curriculum of teaching reform, the teaching method and the basis of the elected teaching method. Then Excel(2007) and SPSS(13.0) were used for statistical analysis. 2. Questionnaire investigation for the present situation of domestic nursing teaching strategies selection Following the principle of voluntary, self-made questionnaires were sent out through nursing teaching network platform and the platform for academic meeting. A total of number of 262 nursing teachers participated in this survey. Research content includes the cognition, attitude, behavior, influencing factors of nursing teachers on the teaching method selection, the situation for the teachers to accept education and teaching training, etc, and entry such as the teaching experience about the investigation object itself. The results of the survey input Excel2007, SPSS for windows13.0 for statistical analysis.Through the information such as entry. Then Excel(2007) and SPSS(13.0) were used for statistical analysis. 3. Research on evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature According to the result of literature analysis, combined with the actual situation of nursing teaching in our country, preplan of evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature were made by means of group discussion. 30 experts were chosen from11 key colleges and universities across the country and Delph expert consultation method was applied. The experts were asked to identify the index entries or give revised opinions. After two rounds of expert consultation, we built the index system according to the results and determined index connotation. Based on the experts’ judgment opinion on the importance of index, we used the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) to calculate the index weight, and finally formed the evaluation scale for reference value of the nursing teaching strategies research literature containing 9 items, providing the necessary tools to choose path for nursing teaching method based on the concept of EBP. 4. Research on the selection path for nursing teaching strategy based on the concept of EBP According to the current teaching practice, empirical studies were conducted to confirm the credibility and effectiveness of evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature. On this basis, the evidence-based theory, Deming cycle theory, the theory of evidence-based practice and effective teaching theory were summarized and analyzed using theory methodology, then the selection path for nursing teaching strategies including the operation process such as preparation, implementation, assessment and improvement was put forward.Results 1. The teaching strategies used in nursing teaching method reform were various according to literature analysis at home from 2005 to 2014, however the overall quality was not ideal; more researches were carried out on the teaching strategies reform of fundamental nursing, medical and surgical nursing and so on, few were on humanities and social sciences courses; evidence for choice of teaching method was insufficient. 2. From the questionnaire, all the nursing teachers agreed that teaching method had a great impact on the teaching effect, but it was believed that selection process of teaching strategies was affected by large class amount, tense lecture time, insufficient teaching conditions and other factors. As a result, the main teaching strategies that nursing teachers in the mainland of China chose were still easy-to-implement lecture method and demonstrative teaching method. The survey showed that education and training for nursing teachers was insufficient, which may be an important reason for nursing teachers to choose single teaching strategies. 3. Evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature includes 9 items, the content and weights:(1)reasonable research method(0.208);(2)standard study design(0.221);(3)complying with ethical requirements(0.068);(4)normative data analysis(0.136);(5)effective results(0.104);(6)established logical relationship between results and conclusions(0.036);(7)available teaching condition(0.092);(8) easy-to-implement teaching method(0.109);(9)easy to obtain the student’s cooperation(P = 0.027). Using evaluation scale can help understand the level of single reference literature value or compare the level of reference value of different literatures. 4. The empirical research results showed that evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature was convenient and simple, and the result was objective and credible. Taken the scale as the basic tool, we studied and developed the selection path for nursing teaching strategies based on the concept of EBP, basic procedures were as follows:(1)the planning stage, including forming teaching group and determining the content of teaching;(2)the implementation phase, including the selection of database, literature retrieval for relative teaching strategies, then the teaching group used the scale to evaluate the literature, choosing the teaching strategy and carrying out teaching process;(3)assessing and improving stage, including combining teachers’ and students’ reaction, test scores and other factors, assessing the effect of the teaching, improving the teaching method according to the assessment results.Conclusions 1. The overall quality of the domestic literature for nursing teaching method reform was not satisfactory, the curriculum was not balanced, evidence for choice of teaching method was insufficient. 2. The main teaching strategies that domestic nursing teachers chose were traditional lecture method and demonstrative teaching method; A variety of factors may influence teachers’ choice of teaching strategies but not receiving reasonable education and training for nursing teachers was a common phenomenon. 3. The evaluation scale for reference value of the teaching strategies literature was convenient and effective, and was suitable for tool to choose nursing teaching method based on EBP concept. 4. Selection path for nursing teaching strategies based on the concept of EBP was divided into three stages: planning, implementation, check and improvement, improving the teaching effect step by step through the cycle.
