ObjectiveIn this study, we try to evaluate the correlations among Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes, Constitution in TCM, personality factors, characteristics of anxiety/depression, ovarian responses and pregnancy rate in an IVF treatment. Besides that, we try to investigate the distribution of different TCM syndromes in women approaching IVF treatments. The relevance of ovarian responses like the number of follicles, oocytes and embryos will be analyzed for different TCM syndromes and Constitutions in TCM.MethodsInfertile women who received their IVF treatments from June2013till Jan2014in The University of Hong Kong-Queen Mary Hospital, Centre of Assisted Reproduction and Embryology were recruited.206women fulfilled the inclusion criteria and those who have not completed the whole set of questionnaires or have their pregnancy test not done before early March2014were excluded. Prior to commencing the IVF treatment, we collected data of five areas including:1) General data,2) TCM syndrome differentiation made by investigator under the principle of TCM. Then they were required to fill in a set of questionnaires of3) Professor Wang Qi’s Nine types of Constitutions of TCM,4) Eysenck Personality Questionnnaires (EPQ),5) Zung’s self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and Zung’s self-rating depression scale(SDS). And after all treatments,6) the ovarian responses including antral follicle count (AFC), follicle sizes, endometrial thickness, maturation of oocytes, total number of normal fertilized oocytes, normal fertilization rate, number of cleaved normal fertilized oocytes, number and rate of normal fertilized embryos with4cell Grade1&2and pregnancy outcomes were collected prospectively.Medical statistics software SPSS21were used in analyzing data afterwards. Correlations among different variables were evaluated. P values of <0.05were considered clinically significant.ResultsOf the139patients who had completed in vitro fertilization by Feb, only108women received embryo transfer, and had the pregnancy test done.
