Lung cancer has the highest morbiditaet and death rate in all types of cancers worldwide. Treating lung cancer with traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has shown many advantages in different ways.Professor Zhang Daizhao has fifty-years’ experiences in lung cancer treating, especially with TCM. He is the pioneer of decreasing side-effcet of chemotherapy and radiotherapy with TCM.Purpose:To summarize the experiences of Pro. Zhang in lung cancer treating.Contents:Pro. Zhang’s viewpoints of differentiation and classification of lung cancer;Pro. Zhang’s experiences in lung cancer treating with TCMMethods:To study the articles of Pro. Zhang and the cases Pro. Zhang treated for retrospect; To find out Pro. Zhang’s viewpoints of syndrome differentiation and classification of lung cancer and experiences in treating moderate and advanced lung cancer with TCM through Data Mining for prospect.Conclusions:Summarize the experiences of Pro. Zhang in treating lung cancer through three-years’study with him and his books and articles ever published.Pro. Zhang thinks the deficiency of genuine qi is the main cause of lung cancer. Deficiency of genuine qi lasts every stage of the disease. Because of deficiency of genuine qi, dishormany of blood and qi and disfunction of Zangfu Organ, the body fails to protect itself so that the evil qi attacks it. The evil qi exists and make qi and blood stasis. At last tumor forms. In Pro. Zhang’s opinion, the syndrome differentiation and classification of lung cancer are yin deficiency and endogenous heat, phlegm and dampness retention due to spleen deficiency, deficiency of both qi and yin, qi and blood stasis and insufficiency of both lung and kidney. Yin deficiency and qi deficiency are the top two types. In the early stage of lung cancer, we should expelling evils first.Expelling evils and supporting the genuine in the moderate while supporting the genuine first in the late stage. When serious cough, add Beimu and Pipaye; When hard to split, add Gualou; When hemotysis, add Xianhecao, Baiji, Oujie, Shenditan. Pro. Zhang suggests we use herbs both before and after the operation. He thinks radiotherapy is heat-poison and easy to attack yin. Nourishing yin and clearing away heat, replenishing qi and blood, strengthening the spleen and harmonizing the stomach and nourishing the liver and kidney can be used with radiotherapy. Replenishing both qi and blood, strengthening the spleen and harmonizing the stomach, lowering the rebellious qi to stop omitting and nourishing the liver and kidney can ease the side-effects of chemotherapy. TCM can play the main part in treating lung cancer in elderlys. Strengthening the genuine qi and strengthening the spleen and harmonizing the stomach are the two most important rules in treating lung cancer with TCM. Datas root in the145outpatients of lung cancer from Oct,2008to Aug,2011. Deficiency syndrome is the main type of lung cancer. Qi and blood stasis is the core pathological mechanism of lung caner. Replenishing qi and nourishing yin, softening hardness to romoving stasis are the most common rules of treating. Herbs that Pro. Zhang uses mostly differs according to different syndrome differentiation and classification.
