Engineering drawing system is one of the most important parts of engineering CAD. Engineering drawing is the description of objects with 2D mode and is the base of engineering statistics and budget. It can also be used to direct building construction. A whole engineering drawing system should contain management of drawing, generation of drawing graphics, label of drawing and BOM(bill of material). The goal of research in this paper is how to improve the automation degree and usage convenience of these functions, and then achieve higher efficiency of drawings' generation. Hence, a lot of work has been done deeply in respect of automatic generation and disposal of drawing, labeling and BOM. Besides, make full use of existing technologies, such as object-oriented, template, parameter, variable, etc, and extend some algorithms that are already in use, and then improve the automation degree largely of each module in the system. The main work of this paper is as followings: Extended contour: Lots of research has been done on contour. But none of the related algorithms can deal with the contour unclosed and with suspended edge. This paper introduces the concept—extended contour to deal with such case, and designs a more optimized algorithm, which enables the system to detect extended contour from irregular graphic and fulfill some related operations. Label based on label point: 2D mode drawing is derived from 3D mode object after a serial of transformations, but the label should reflect the original location in the object. So there comes up a tough problem—how to get real data to describe the 3D object despite of stretching, moving, etc. This paper presents a proper concept of label point, which can not only store the position in 3D mode and in drawing, but also work as a bridge between the object labeled and labeling. It resolves the problem perfectly.
