Fenhuyeshi means the family of Ye who had been in Fenhu duing the periods of Ming and Qing Dynasty, Known for their distinguished literary pursuits and achievements, As a hereditary family of literature, Fenhuyeshi had bred a group of family writers such as Ye Shaoyuan, Shen Yixiu, Ye Xiaowan, Ye Xiaohian and Ye Xie,who are of great attainment in the Chinese history of literature. In particular, the fruitful spiritual and cultural achievements By them deserve our academic scrutiny. This dissertation, on the basis of the previous studies by the other researchers and the analysis of many first-hand literature materials, has made the initial attempt of its kind to conduct a systemic research of the family heritage and Rterary activities of Fenhuyeshi in the period of the Late Ming and the Early Qing Dynasty. Such efforts are made in the hope that we will have a clear picture of the fundamental aspects of the relationship between hereditary house of great influence and the development of literature; therefore -we will be able to Broaden our horizon on the approach to study the classic literature from the perspective of family culture.The preface of this dissertation makes a brief introduction to the significance of the current topic for research and the previous work by the other scholars, together with a general evaluation of the demerits of the previous studies. Additionally, some Basic concepts closely related to this dissertation are provided with definitions.The Body of this dissertation consists of four chapters, which, as a whole, makes a thorough exploration of the origin of Fenhuyeshi, the style of family bearing and the heritage of family devotion to learning and literature. The whole dissertation regards Ye Shaoyuan, Shen Yixiu and Ye Xie as separate focus of my study,which clearly displays the social and literary activities of the family under exploration. In so doing, we have also demonstrated their literature thinking, achievements and impact.The first chapter starts from the historical background, and then it proceeds to the regional culture, the temporal scholastic tide and the heritage of family. This chapter enables us to have an elaboration of the family impartment and hand down of literature in their family generations, the family upbringing style and family dedication to teaming and literature. The chapter also makes an introduction to the life, activities and remarkable works of the important family members of the Wumengtang (Branch of Ye's family and the noticeable brothers of Ye family. Alsoan evaluation of the deep influence of the famity works of fenhuyeshi, The Collected Edition of Wumengtang, is presented at the end of this chapter.Chapter 2 is a special discussion of Ye Shaoyuan. The study of Ye Shaoyuan has rarefy Seen touched upon in the history. Such a deficit has been compensated by the current chapter, which makes a careful study of his life, his career as an official and the characteristics of his personality. Also a multi-dimensionaldiscussion is made over his political orientation, scholastic development, views on literature, composing of poems, essays and other literary works and achievements.Chapter 3 is a separate pan dealing with the literary gift and the achievements of the women writers of Fenhuyeshi The chapter begins with a brief introduction of the general feature of the boudoir Gterature style in the Ming Dynasty, and then it further extrapolates the reason for the rise of the intelligent and gifted women of Fenhuyeshi in the field of literature. This chapter also makes a presentation of the literary works and accomplishments among the mother (Shen Yixiu) and her three elegant daughters(Ye Wanwan, YeXiaowan and Ye Xiaoluan) of Fenhuyeshi.The last chapter is about Ye Xie, another distinguished writer of fenhuyeshi. This chapter covers the aspects of his family cultivation and upbringing, the long history and heritage of Fenhuyeshi devotion to learning and literature and the spirit of the period.
