Part Ⅰ Evaluation of cardiac structure and function in ASD patientsUsing transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography for regime selection1. Retrospective analysis on epidemics of location and morphology of ASD Objective: to understand epidemics of secundum ASD. Materials and Methods: 132 patients aged 5 to 55 years (mean 22.2±13.6) underwent operative repair. There were 50 men and 82 women. Results: There were 114 patients of ostium secundum ASD with maximal diameter of 40 mm and minimal diameter of 5 mm. There were 13 of circular, 108 of oblong and 4 of Swiss cheese. There were 3 of multiple, 8 of inferior combined with central, 1 of superior combined with central, 3 of isolated superior and 8 of isolated inferior. There were 16 patients complicated with moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension, 20 of mild pulmonary hypertension and 2 of pulmonary stenosis. Valvular ring of tricuspid dilated severely in 8 patients and 3 patients had severe tricuspid insufficient. 2 of anomalous pulmonary venous drainage were found. Conclusions: (1) There are variety in morphology of secundum ASD, such as oval, oblong, Swiss cheese, narrow and long and irregular. (2) There are variety in location of secundum ASD, such as central, combination of central and inferior, combination of central and superior, isolated superior and isolated inferior and so on. (3) Intervention related doctors must know about epidemics of ASD to just correctly and make decision during closure.2. Materials and Methods: 75 patients aged 5 to 53 years (median 27.86±14.44), 20 male and 55 female, were involved in this study. The instrument were HP5500, ACUSON Sequoia256, 512, Aspen with 2 to 7 MHz probes. The echo views include: parastemal short axis view of great arteries and four chamber view, apical four chamber view, subcostal four chamber view, subcostal two chamber view of double atrium and long axis view of superior and inferior vena cava, right parastemal horizontal and longitudinal view.
