| My instructor, Professor Xiao Chengzong, a famous gynecologist, pointed out that the"Chang Tan" described in classical literature is equivalent to the "ovarian cyst" today. Inorder to differentiate it from descriptions other than the field of gynecology and to standardizediagnosis of gynecological diseases, the name "ovarian cyst" should be equivalent to"women's chang tan". Professor Xiao summarized that the ovarian cyst is a disease ofdeficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. Deficiency of the liver blood, stagnation ofthe liver qi and hypofunction of the spleen are the origin, while blood stasis due to stagnationof qi and accumulation of blood stasis and phlegm in the Chong and Ren channels are thesuperficialities, thus forming ovarian cysts. Based on these pathogenic factors, thetherapeutic methods of enriching blood, invigorating the spleen, removing blood stasis, andexpelling phlegm (EBISRBSEP) are constituted. Equal importance is given to eliminatingpathogenic pathogenic factors and supporting healthy energy. The superficialities and theorigin are treated at the same time. On the foundation of the classical "Danggui ShaoyaoPowder", revisions are made and the dosage form is improved into the granule form. In order to observe the clinical effects of enriching blood, invigorating the spleen, removing blood stasis, and expelling phlegm and to probe into their mechanism, our researchstudied 87 cases of ovarian cyst out-patients between ages 20-50. Among which, 72 casesserved as the experimental group treated with the enriching blood-invigorating thespleen-removing blood stasis-expelling phlegm granule; 15 cases served as the control grouptreated with "Guizhi Fuling Capsule". Results: The granule treatment is more effective intreating ovarian cysts, having a total effective rate of 87.5%; when compared to the 73.33%total effective rate of the control group, it shows a higher effective rate. After one course oftreatment, the experimental group showed that 93.06% of patients have improved TCMsymptoms, with a significant statistical difference when compared to the 73.33% of thecontrol group. Experimental group patients have lowered serum SOD level and E2levels aftertreatment, showing significant statistical difference when compared with pre-treatment results. This explains that the mechanism of the therapeutic methods probably has some relation withimproving the metabolism of active oxygen, regulating the immuno-reaction of the body, lowering estrogen levels, improve blood flow and microcirculation. In summary, enriching blood-invigorating the spleen-removing blood stasis-expellingphlegm is an effective therapeutic method for treating ovarian cysts. Its mechanism probablyhas some relation with improving the metabolism of active oxygen, regulating theimmuno-reaction of the body, lowering estrogen levels, improve blood flow andmicrocirculation. |
