Chinese Medicine has formed unique theory in prevention and treatment for pestilential disease, and build up abundant and valued experiences in its long history. At present, the unique medthods in prevention and treatment of pestilential disease of Chinese Medicine are not applied in clinical because the lack of clearing up and studying on the theory, methods and experiences in prevention and treatment of pestilential diseases of Chinese Medicine. So, it is important and urgent to sort the theory, methods and experiences of prevention and treatment of pestilential by Chinese Medicine, and apply Chinese Medicine to serve the mordern society more effectively.The paper expound the concept, etiology, pathogeneses and the principle and methods of prevention and treatment of pestilential diseases. The paper pointed out that the concept of pestilential diseases means a kind of acute exogenous diseases caused by pestilential pathogens, with strong infectivity and epidemicity features of acute onset, severe morbid condition and deteriorating easily. The range of pestilential diseases include cold and worm types and classified into two categories, the one is febrile pestilence, the natures of pathogens and syndromes belong to heat, it may be classified into damp heat pestilence, dry heat pestilence and summer heat pestilenc, etc. The other one is cold pestilence, the natures of pathogens and syndromes belong to cold.The characteristics of pestilential diseases include particular pathogen, i.e., pestilential pathogens, seasonal and geographical features, strong infectivity and epidemicity, and acute onset, rapid transference, and severe morbid condition. The paper elucidated the epidemic state of pestilential diseases in history and analysed the the feature in epidemicity of pestilential diseases and discussion of the diseases by different medical scholars.The paper elucidated the pathogens and pathogenesis of pestilential diseases, it pointed out that the pathogen of the diseases is pestilential pathogens, and discussed the features of pestilential pathogens, and the onset of the diseases was influenced by natural and social environments, and vital Qi of the body. As for the prevention of the pestilential diseases, the paper elucidated the preventive principles of pestilential diseases, build up the tertiary prevention system of pestilential diseases, and has the important significance on preventing pestilential diseases by the theory of Chinese Medicine in clinical.
