Young Mao Zedong is not only a revolutionary activist with great organizational talents, but also an excellent revolutionary propagandist. To study young Mao Zedong’s editorial practice and editorial thoughts, research methods like literature analysis, content analysis and qualitative analysis are applied in this paper. As an important part of his revolutionary activities, young Mao Zedong’s editorial practice is consist of three parts:newspaper editing, book and documentary material editing and other forms of editing practice.In his youth (1918-1927), Mao Zedong edited newspapers such as The Shian Kian Weekly Review, New Hunan, Political Weekly and Newspaper of Xiangtan Education Promotion Association, he also started New Times, and co-organized Hunan Popular Newspaper. The documentary material he edited includes The Correspondence between Members of Xinmin Institute, and The Meeting Accounts of Xinmin Institute. He supervised the publication of collections of Peasant Problems. Some other forms of his editorial practice include:launching Civilian Press Agency, establishing the Culture Bookstore, and jointly editing the Ta Kung Pao newspaper, and he also composed the addressing words for The Daily Journal of the Guangdong Provincial Party Congress.Mao Zedong’s editorial practice at different periods of time displayed the following three different features:all the publications he edited embody distinctive aims; his editorial practice is closely related with the real political situation to serve the revolutionary cause; and he played multiple roles as editor and writer in all his editorial practice. With the characteristics of clearness and conciseness, the progressive publications edited by young Mao Zedong exert far-reaching influence on people past and present.Young Mao Zedong’s editorial thoughts mainly include three parts:transforming China and the world; starting from the reality and supporting claims with facts; and establishing a United Front. Young Mao Zedong’s editorial thought is an essential part of young Mao Zedong Thought, and his editorial practice influenced the formation of Mao Zedong Thought profoundly.
