A Study Of Chen Xiuyuan 's Inheritance And Development Of Zhongjing' S Academic Thought

Chen Xiuyuan, as a famous doctor in Qing dynasty, is well known to all for a large number of writings, enjoying a good reputation in medical circles for the innovation and practicability of his works. His active exploration and innovation in Zhongjing’s academic thought has certain influence in modern times. But in fact, Chen Xiuyuan’s medical ideas are not only limited in Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber, and his basis of medical ideas, based on Huangdi’s Internal Classics and inherited from Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber. Also, he has made a further research on these bases. But his writing has important practical significance to the academic inheritance and development of TCM.Chen Xiuyuan owns numerous works, and the maximum of seventy-two kinds of collection relevant to Chen Xiuyuan writings is available, while at present, Chen Xiuyuan’s works acknowledged by academia are 16, which are Brief Annotation of Lingsu Synopsis, Brief Annotation of Synopsis of Golden Chamber, Summary Verse of Golden Chamber Prescription, Brief Annotation of Treatise on Febrile Diseases, Summary Verse of Changsha Prescription, Indeed Easy Medicine, Following Traditional Customs Medical, Gynecology Gist, Sheng Nong’s Herbal Classic Reading, Three-character Medical Verses, Magical Effect of Current Prescriptions, Summary Verse of Current Prescription, Zhang Jingyue’s New Array Needle, Summary Verse of True Prescription of Febrile Diseases, List Reading of Medical Secret of typhoid, and Annotation of Miraculous Book of Ten Prescriptions respectively. This research, based on 16 kinds of Chen Xiuyuan’s works, has combined Chen Xiuyuan’s related research literature from 1955 to 2014, in the hope of making systematic discussion of Chen Xiuyuan’s inheritance and development of Zhongjing’s academic thought.The research is divided into three parts.The first part is Chen Xiuyuan’s biographical study of Chen Xiuyuan, with discussions on growth environment, learning experience and educational background process of Chen Xiuyuan, and has made an analysis of respecting classics and worshiping ancient thoughts, and transmitting Chinese medicine education, exploring the core of Chen Xiuyuan academic thought.The second part studies Chen Xiuyuan’s inheritance as well as the innovation and development of Zhongjing’s academic ideas, exploring Chen Xiuyuan’s inheritance of Zhongjing theory and clinical application. Chen Xiuyuan has made many efforts on the study of Zhongjing’s academic thought for many years, on the basis of inheritance of Zhongjing’s academic thought, putting forward many new ideas after the inheritance, such as "separate proof of the six meridians", "analysis and transmission of Kai-he Meridians theory". Until the late years, his work of List Reading of Medical Secret of typhoid has been also in constant innovation, and "separate proof of the inner parts" is proposed. In the aspect of clinical application, he uses Zhongjing’s Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber, making good use of classical prescription but not limited to it. He has also shared many classical prescriptions and proved recipes on clinical treatment, such as the book of Summary of Current Prescription Analysis, which is the collection of useful current prescriptions, which offers commendable reference for the organic coordination of classical prescriptions and proved recipes.The third part discusses Chen Xiuyuan’s academic ideas, making a study of Chen Xiuyuan’s academic origin, features of academic thinking and characteristics of syndrome differentiation and treatment, mechanism of methods of scholarly research. Chen Xiuyuan’s academic thoughts stem from Huangdi’s Internal Classics, inherited from Treatise on Febrile Diseases and Synopsis of Golden Chamber, also absorbing the essence of different schools, which has been eventually embodied in his books. Chen Xiuyuan’s treatment based on syndrome differentiation gives priority to sphygmology, and he agrees to Zhang Xinzai’s diagnosis, which considers flotation, sink, delay, count, long, short, thin and large as the outline for syndrome differentiation. Chen clan deems that the pulse manifestation passed on by the ancients can all be abandoned without using it, but the eight meridians can be used as outline. Although it is merely an opinion of him, it has a certain reference value in clinical practice. The transportation and transformation spleen and the existence of body fluid are stressed. In twilight of his last years, he has attached great importance to the methods of scholarly research and the spread of Chinese medicine education, and has created many summary verse and formula to facilitate beginners to memorize and learn, which has made an enormous contribution to the cause of Chinese medicine education.The main purpose of this study is to explore and expounds the theoretical foundation for Chen Xiuyuan medical ideology, and his academic views and practice of innovation, in order to provide a systematic and comprehensive reference and reference for more in-depth study of Chen Xiuyuan’s academic thinking.
