Research On Restoration And Rehabilitation Of Degraded Coastal Wetlands In The Southern Laizhou Bay

Coastal wetlands are special ecosystems in coast zone formed by the interaction of sea and land. They are important for protecting biodiversity, preventing pollutants from land into sea and sustaining development of marine fishery, salt industry and salt-chemical industry. The southern Laizhou Bay and Yellow River delta is an important region distributing wetlands in the coast zone of northern China. The research area of the paper includes cities of Shouguang, Hanting and Changyi to the north of Weifang city, with 113km long coastline from estuary of Xiaoqing River in the west to estuary of Jiaolai River in the east, which extends north-west to south-east. The acreage of the coastal wetlands formed by the interaction of land and sea in the southern of Laizhou Bay is about 16.75×104 hektares by statistic. The author makes researches on the sorts, frame, function and ecological processes of ecosystem of coastal wetlands in the southern Laizhou Bay, analyses the degradation of them in the latest 30 years and puts forwards countermeasures of rehabilitating and reconstructing of them.The coastal wetlands in the southern Laizhou bay are divided into 2 sorts and 4 sub-sorts and 22 types in all based on the rules of wetland classifying of Ramsar convention and some research results of the division of Chinese coastal wetlands. The sorts and sub-sorts of the coastal wetlands are classified on the interaction of land and sea and the influences of human activities on them. The types of the coastal wetlands are classified on characteristics of vegetations, hydrology and sediments.The coastal wetlands in the southern Laizhou Bay are ecosystems with characteristics of high biodiversity, frail ecological environment which is easily influenced by human activities, simple vertical stratification, remarkable regional differentiation, rich resources and useful ecological and social functions.The ecological processes of the coastal wetlands in the southern Laizhou Bay lnclude the biological process, physical process and chemical process.
