Scientific and technological innovation is the key to transforming China’s economic development from high-speed growth to high-quality development,and it is a powerful driving force for economic development.Economic development also feeds back the progress of science and technology,providing a well-resourced environment for the development of technological innovation.Therefore,promoting the coupling and coordinated development of technological innovation and regional economy is of great significance for China to build an innovative country and high-quality economic development in the new era.Most scholars have conducted research on the relationship between them,but they generally focus on the national macro level,lacking comparative research between different regions.This article takes 10 provinces and cities in the three economic circles of the Bohai Rim,the Yangtze River Delta,and the Pearl River Delta as research objects,and conducts an empirical study of the coupling and coordination relationship between technological innovation and regional economic development.Firstly,based on the review and summary of literature,this article analyzes the coupling mechanism between technological innovation and regional economic development based on scientific and technological innovation theory,regional economic development theory,system coupling theory and gray correlation theory.Secondly,based on the current situation of technological innovation and regional economic development in the three major economic circles,this paper selects panel data from 2003-2020 to construct a comprehensive evaluation index system for technological innovation and regional economic development.The weight of indicators is determined by using entropy method,and the levels of technological innovation and regional economic development in the three major economic circles are measured respectively.Thirdly,it is preliminarily determined that there is a coordination relationship between them through the Granger causality test.Then,the coupling coordination degree model is constructed,and the coupling coordination degree is measured.The types and trends of the coupling and coordination development of technological innovation and regional economy in the three economic circles are explored.Subsequently,the internal influencing factors of the coupling and coordination of technological innovation and regional economy in the three major economic circles are analyzed by constructing a grey correlation degree model,and the future development trend of the coupling coordination degree is predicted.Finally,based on the research conclusions,some policy implications are proposed to promote the coupling and coordinated development of technological innovation and regional economy in the three major economic circles from three aspects: enhancing innovation capabilities to serve the national strategic layout,positioning coordinated development models based on regional differentiation,and exploring internal factors to improve the level of coupling and coordination.The main research conclusions of this article are as follows: First,from the perspective of comprehensive development level,the level of scientific and technological innovation in the Pearl River Delta is higher than that in the Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Rim regions.The regional economic development differences among the three major economic circles have increased year by year,but the overall level has steadily improved with significant results.Second,from the perspective of the level of coupling and coordination,the technological innovation and regional economic development of the three major economic circles all have strong benign coupling characteristics and are developing in an orderly direction.The Bohai Rim and the Yangtze River Delta are at a basic coordination stage,while the Pearl River Delta has entered a highly coordinated stage.Based on the relative development degree,the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta have entered a synchronous development stage before the Bohai Rim,but all are lagging behind in scientific and technological innovation as a whole.Third,from the perspective of influencing factors,the number of colleges and universities is the main factor affecting the degree of coupling coordination.Different regions are affected by various factors to varying degrees,and each region maybe should adopt appropriate adjustment plans based on local actual conditions.Fourth,from the perspective of predicted development trends,the overall coupling and coordination levels of the three major economic circles have shown an upward trend.
