| This study examines the implementation of road maintenance policy in Nigeria,a study of the Federal Maintenance Agency(FERMA)within the period of 2010-2020.The study examines how proper implementation of road maintenance policy in Nigeria has made positive effect on other sector of Nigeria economy especially looking into the roles played by federal road maintenance agency as the agency of government empowered by law to implement road maintenance policy in Nigeria.The study used both primary and secondary sources of data in the examination of the issues.In terms of primary data,questionnaires and interview were used while published works of different categories were used as its secondary source of data.The study adopted Public Goods theory as its theoretical framework.The study in the course of survey carried realized that there are several challenges facing FERMA such as poor budgetary allocation,failure of implement the road fund as stipulated by FERMA Act 2002,poor legislative oversight,inadequate skilled staff among others.The study made recommendations in line with findings of the study such as urgent establishment of the road fund,increase budgetary allocations;prompt release of appropriated fund,and involvement of FERMA engineers in road construction process among others.The study concludes that the tackling of the challenges facing the agency will allow it to perform its mandate more efficiently and effectively towards national development in Nigeria... |
