This paper explores the application of single mode-few mode-single mode fiber interferometer,a new type of optical filter,in the field of all-optical pulse shaping technology.The main results obtained in the paper are as follows:(1)The theoretical working principles of single mode-dual mode-single mode(SDS),single mode-four mode-single mode(SFS)and cascaded SFS fiber interferometer are thoroughly analyzed,simulated and discussed.(2)A double pulse rate multiplier and a flat-top pulse generator based on the axis aligned SFS fiber interferometer are designed.For the double pulse rate multiplier,using different four-mode fiber lengths,the input Gaussian pulse of 1.89 ps is simulated to realize the double frequency output with intervals of 10.53 ps,15.80 ps and 21.06 ps,and the influence factors of output pulse interval and pulse amplitude are discussed;For the flat-top pulse generator,the input Gaussian pulses of 0.71 ps and 0.95 ps are shaped into flat-top pulses of 1.27 ps and 1.50 ps,and the effect of input pulse width,center frequency and length of the four-mode fiber are analyzed.(3)Using the parameters of commercial single-mode and dual-mode fibers including Corning SMF28,Thorlabs SM2000 and YOFC FM2010-B,a flat-top pulse generator and all-optical temporal differentiator based on the core offset SDS fiber interferometer are designed.For the flat-top pulse generator,the input Gaussian pulses of 2ps and 1.53 ps are shaped into flat-top pulses of 3.48 ps and 2.64 ps,respectively;Using the tunability of the eccentric angle,two kinds of 0-1 order all-optical temporal differentiators with adjustable order are simulated and realized,and their working characteristics are discussed in detail.(4)The quadruple pulse rate multiplier,flat-top pulse generator and triangular pulse generator based on the cascaded axis aligned SFS fiber interferometer are designed.For the quadruple pulse rate multiplier,using different four-mode fiber lengths,the input Gaussian pulse of 1ps is simulated to realize the quadruple frequency output with intervals of 5.26 ps,7.90 ps and 13.16 ps respectively;For the flat-top pulse generator,the input Gaussian pulses of 2ps,2.36 ps,and 3.37 ps are shaped into flat-top pulses of 3.80 ps,4.40 ps,and 5.79 ps,and the factors affecting the output of the flat-top pulse generator are analyzed;In addition,the characteristics of the triangular pulse generator are analyzed,and the factors affecting the output of the triangular pulse generator are discussed.(5)The axis aligned SFS fiber interferometer and the core offset SDS fiber interferometer are fabricated.The experimental results show that the free spectral range of the transmission spectrum is consistent with the theoretical analysis results.The transmission spectral extinction ratio(2.9d B)of the axis aligned SFS fiber interferometer is slightly smaller than the theoretical design result(3.75 d B),while the transmission spectral extinction ratio of the core offset SDS fiber interferometer(10.5d B)is significantly smaller than the theoretical design result(23.5d B).And the experimental results show that adding a polarization controller to the core offset SDS fiber interferometer can significantly change the extinction ratio of the output spectrum(3d B-10.5d B).In addition,the influence of the eccentric distance error on the single mode-few mode-single mode fiber interferometer is deeply analyzed.The simulation results show that the eccentric distance error will seriously affect the extinction ratio of the output spectrum of the core offset SDS fiber interferometer.
