Improving health equality is the only way to achieve common prosperity. The 20 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put health as a strategic priority for development and proposed to promote the construction of a healthy China. As a blueprint for the construction of a healthy China,"the Plan of Health China 2030" advocated building the foundation of a healthy China by providing high levels of public sports services and significantly improving health equity.Under this background,it is important to explore the relationship between public sports services and health inequality to improve the level of public sports service provision and better contribute to the construction of a healthy China. This paper analyzes the mechanism of the impact of public sports services on health inequality, uses macro and micro cross-sectional data based on the Chinese General Social Survey data to verify the relationship between public sports services and health inequality, and further explores the heterogeneous impact of public sports services on health inequality from the perspective of urban and rural areas, education levels, and income levels. The results show that public sports services enhance the health of residents by promoting physical activity, but exacerbate health inequalities. It is found through further analysis that the effect of public sports services on health inequality is heterogeneous across urban and rural areas, across education levels, and across income level groups.Accordingly, the government should focus on improving the level of public sports service, optimizing the supply of public sports service in rural areas and strengthening the role of public sports service in improving health literacy to alleviate health inequality.
