Research On The Influence Of Corporate Political Behavior On Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate political behavior is one of the research hotspots of corporate governance in the context of socialism with distinct Chinese characteristics.Against the backdrop of increasingly serious global climate issues and national calls for high-quality development,corporate social responsibility has become a hot topic of concern for all walks of life.Taking corporate social responsibility as the entry point,this paper studies the influence of Party committee participation in governance of stateowned enterprises(in the form of two-way entry and cross-serving)and Party organization embedding in private enterprises on corporate governance behavior.Based on 10,191 observations from 1115 stateowned enterprises listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets during 2010-2020,the empirical results show that:(1)The two-way entry of stateowned enterprises has a significant promoting effect on CSR behavior;(2)Organizational redundancy has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between state-owned enterprises’ "two-way entry" and CSR behavior.Taking 10,735 observations from five surveys of private enterprises conducted between 2006 and 2014(respectively in 2006,2008,2010,2012,2014)as research samples,we analyzed the influence of Party organization embedding in private enterprises on corporate social responsibility.The results show that:(1)Private enterprises’ party organization embedding promotes the implementation of corporate social responsibility(environmental responsibility and employee responsibility);(2)Entrepreneurs’ social status has a negative moderating effect on the relationship between private enterprises’ party organization embedding and corporate social responsibility.This study makes a more comprehensive study of the influence of corporate political behavior on social responsibility,and shows that under the socialism with distinct Chinese characteristics,the government can play a role in guiding the development direction of enterprises,which is conducive to the sustainable development of enterprises.
