With the deepening of world integration,oral English is becoming more and more important.Dialogue texts in English textbooks are the main materials for cultivating oral English ability.In the context of the diversification of current textbooks,the dialogue texts presented by different textbooks take on some differences,which also have different effects on the development of oral ability.The implementation of the new round of English curriculum reform and the promulgation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 edition)have put forward many new requirements for the compilation of current English textbooks in China.The content of the new curriculum reform requires compulsory education should fully consider the unbalanced development of regional special circumstances,for this purpose,the various versions of the English textbooks poured into the market quickly.Under the background of multiple textbooks,the evaluation of English textbooks is particularly important.The PEP edition and FLTRP edition are widely used and representative of Shandong Province.In view of this,this study analyzes and compares the dialogue parts of the two editions of textbooks.Based on Cheng Xiaotang’s teaching evaluation theory and the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),this study uses text analysis and comparative analysis to make a comparison between the PEP edition and FLTRP edition of junior high school English textbooks.Based on the main purpose of developing students’ oral communicative competence,this study tries to answer the following questions: On the part of dialogue text content,what are the similarities and differences between the two textbooks in terms of the theme,the authenticity of the language and the pragmatic characteristics of the dialogue materials? In the arrangement of the dialogue materials,what are the similarities and differences in the organization and design of dialogue activities between the two editions of textbooks? In terms of the ideological nature reflected in the dialogue part,what are the similarities and differences between the cultural knowledge embodied in the two editions of textbooks?The main research findings are as follows: In terms of the topics of dialogue materials,the two editions put different emphases on various topics.FLTRP textbooks are more in line with the requirements of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition),and the design is relatively reasonable.And PEP textbooks focus more on topics related to students’ daily life.However,the two editions have fewer human and nature topics.Both editions can meet the requirements of authenticity and authenticity.In the pragmatic aspects of dialogue materials,the contents of the two editions both cover relatively comprehensive pragmatic functions,which have a certain positive influence on improving students’ pragmatic competence.From the arrangement of the dialogue,the two editions both have rich activities,and basically in line with the level of students’ cognitive development.In terms of the cultural knowledge,the two editions almost make no differences.Both editions focus on students’ daily life and the things closely related to students,but neither of them fully cover the requirements of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition).The two editions of textbooks do not involve too much relevant contents in the ideological aspects of the dialogue materials proposed in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition).
