This thesis is a C-E translation report on the post-editing of Chapter Five,of Journey to the Far Side of the Moon,an aerospace popular science book, with more than 15,000 words in total. The compilers, coming from Beijing Aerospace Control Center, describe the process of China’s Lunar Exploration Project(CLEP)and present plenty of pictures for the first time in this book.As is known to all, aerospace popular science books play an important role in spreading the knowledge, culture, and spirit of aerospace. The translation of this book helps show China’s efforts and progress in the field of lunar exploration to the world and also complies with the strategy of “telling a better China’s story in order to make China’s voice better heard.”Guided by Gutt’s relevance theory, errors that the machine translation made are analyzed respectively at the lexical, sentence, and discourse levels.Solutions are given in accordance with the ostensive-inferential model and the optimal relevance.Besides, this practice uses the machine translation and post-editing(MTPE)model,aiming to improve the accuracy of machine translation and the efficiency of post-editing.Under the guidance of the relevance theory, the efficiency of post-editing is improved to some extent, and the subjectivity of translators is exerted in transferring contextual effects.Through this practice, the author has accumulated some experience.First, translation is the bridge of intercultural communication, thus it is essential to increase cultural awareness.Second,as popular science books contain terminologies and proper nouns, domain expressions should be used to retain lexical consistency.Third, features of popular science ought to be reproduced to make the target text both clear and captivating.Fourth, due to the difference in the cognitive environment, the relevance at the lexical, sentence, and discourse levels should be presented explicitly in English.Furthermore, the author’s translation skills in dealing with popular science texts are enhanced. It is hoped that some references can be provided for the future post-editing,especially for MTPE projects of aerospace popular science books.
