A Study Of Homeland Consciousness Of Yeats’s Poetry From The Perspective Of "The Third Space" Theory

William Butler Yeats is the greatest Irish poet of the 20 th century and the winner of the 1923 Nobel Prize in literature.In the historical background of Ireland’s long colonial history,the poet feels the pain of the shattering of his homeland,so he shows a strong and persistent sense of homeland consciousness in his poetry.In the framework of the third space theory,this thesis explores the mobility of homeland consciousness in Yeats’ s poetry,revealing how Yeats builds a dynamic homeland in the third space and helps the Irish find their homeland again.This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one provides a brief introduction to Yeats and his contributions,sorts out the current research status of Yeats’ s poetry by scholars at home and abroad,and summarizes the theoretical framework and main ideas of this thesis.Chapter two takes the physical space writing in Yeats’ s poetry as the research object,and reveals that the displacement of physical space from Ireland to Britain and the transformation of the cities replace villages have caused the Irish to have a sense of loneliness.Chapter three focuses on the symbolic space and memory space in Yeats’ s poetry,aiming to fully present Yeats’ s reminiscence of a single Irish cultural homeland.Chapter four analyzes the dissolution of the fixed border and hybridity of multiple cultures in Yeats’ s poems.Yeats constructs a compatible world homeland in the open third space.Chapter five summarizes the whole thesis,which summarizes the main arguments and points out the practical significance of the study of homeland consciousness in Yeats’ s poems.To summarize,only by transcending geographical and cultural boundaries will the Irish be able to integrate into the global cultural homeland.They are expected to break the perception of a fixed territory by incorporating the best of other cultures while remaining true to their own national culture.This thesis seeks to draw attention to diasporas by analyzing the transformation of homeland consciousness in Yeats’ s poetry.
