A Report On C-E Translation Of Series Of Jiangxi Cultural Symbols·Farming Culture(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Cultural Translation

In recent years,with the advancement of “Belt and Road Initiative”,Chinese culture has made great progress through “going global”,the translation of Chinese local readings has become an important mean of enhancing a country’s comprehensive strengths,and the spread of distinctive local culture readings can help foreigners to learn profound Chinese culture.Local cultural readings are rich in content,impressive in regionalism and beautiful in language,thus they can well promote the popularity of local culture.Jiangxi Cultural Symbols· Farming Culture focuses on the characteristic farming culture in Jiangxi Province,and is of great significance to the outreach of Jiangxi culture and the presentation of the profound Chinese agricultural culture to the world.Under the guidance of Liu Miqing’s cultural translation theory,especially the expression theory,this translation report selects the second chapter as the translation object and aims to summarize the translation strategies and methods of English translation of local cultural readings.Firstly,through reviewing the literature related to the translation of local culture readings and Liu Miqing’s cultural translation theory,this report argues that cultural translation theory can be used as a theoretical guidance for the Chinese-English translation of Farming Culture.Secondly,based on cultural translation,the cultural information in the source text is found and reproduced in the target text through the methods of rewriting and imitation.The report then explores the translation methods and techniques that can be employed to convey different cultural message at the lexical,syntactic and textual,and aesthetic levels,and presents some case studies.Finally,the main findings of the report and the limitations of the study are summarized,and suggestions for improvement are made.The following findings are drawn from this report:(1)Liu Miqing’s cultural translation theory can be applied to the translation of local culture readings,especially the expression theory and its three principles;(2)the translation of local culture readings is to promote cultural exchange,so it is important to reproduce the cultural content of the source text;(3)the translation of local culture readings involves a large number of Chinese culture-loaded words and long and difficult sentences,and it is suggested many translation strategies such as elaboration and dilution be adopted.(4)The translation process of local culture readings should follow aesthetic principles as far as possible,and it is important that the content is beautiful in addition to conveying cultural information.When translating local culture readings,translators should carefully deal with the cultural information in the original text,pay attention to the accuracy of the translation while bridging the cultural differences between Chinese and Western cultures,and choose appropriate translation techniques and strategies to let foreign readers know the ancient farming culture of Jiangxi and promote Jiangxi culture “going global”.
