Research On Small-town Film Narrative From The Perspective Of Spatial Poetics

Since the 1980s,China has set off a wave of urbanization construction.Many villages have been upgraded to towns,and the people’s lifestyle has also undergone great changes.In the context,the sixth generation of directors represented by Jia Zhangke and the new generation of directors created a number of films with small-town as narrative space.In response to the change of narrative space at the practical level,China’s film poetics has taken a spatial turn through the resource activation of Lefebvre’s spatial production theory,Foucault’s field theory and Edward W.Soja’s third space theory.Taking the creation process of the graduation work“Under Fushanling Mountain”as an example,this paper starts from the theoretical framework of space poetics to examine the spatial narrative types and construction mode of small-town films.In the introduction part,the theoretical research of small-town film and related works are combed.In the first chapter,various types of space in small-town films are analyzed,which are narrowed and underdeveloped industrial space,realistic and freehand natural space,public space of alternation between old and new,closed and disciplined spiritual space,and these spatial types of town films have an important impact on film narrative.In the second chapter,the relationship between the role and the space is analyzed: Ou liang is the “native people” in the native space.He is honest and diligent,looking forward to the outside world.Jie is a social misfit “homecoming”,doing nothing all day.Lin Ziyan is also a “homecoming” in the town,who comes back to search for lost memories after many years away from home.On the other hand,the three of them are the town youth images of “wanderers”,roaming aimlessly in the town space.In the third chapter,combined with the creation process of the works,the study analyzes how to use audio-visual language to construct the town space.Mainly in the visual use of closed frame composition,blank large field shot,continuous space long shot and low saturation color.In the aspect of sound,dialect and environment sound are used to enhance the sense of reality and hierarchy of the space.In the fourth chapter,combined with spatial creation of the graduation work,the study analyzes the problems in the scriptwriter,characters and photography,and makes a deep reflection.
