| In the 20 th century, with the proliferation of art schools and painting styles, the circle of western modern art had entered a diversified pattern while the definition of art was constantly changed, which also increased the uncertainty of people’s understanding of art form and essence.Arikha was eminent for his abstract art in his early years, but at the best time,he felt an absolute antipathy against this style, and he decided to give up all of this resolutely and went back to the drawing board.Beginning to turn his eyesight to the visual world, and excluding the preconception of objective images in his mind, the painting style became figurative gradually, and described the real perception of the real world in a special way of viewing. This academic dissertation is a case study of contemporary Israeli artist,Avigdor Arikha. The full thesis is divided into four chapters, and the real view of "Eidos" as a research theme in Arikha’s painting to develop the analysis of the painter’s personal artistic concept and painting works. The chapter one expounds the evolution of "Eidos" in his painting, which combines with the personal growth experience of Arikha. From abstract to figurative, between real and unreal,he constantly breaks and reshapes his personal artistic idea until the establishment of personal painting style. And chapter two is based on the background knowledge of chapter one, mainly focuse on "Eidos" and "the Real View" of Arikha’s painting,he thinks the substance of the painting is not memory and structure, but observation. He does not imitate and reflect the objective images like traditional painting, nor explain nature entirely from his heart, but build a direct connection between his inner mind and objective images through visual observation.Breaking stereotypes on the basis of respecting the objective facts to explore the real visual images. The chapter three combines with Arikha’s painting conception,to discuss his works from the technique of expression, picture structure and colours, analyze the unique features of his art works.Arikha focus on small things around, and the methods of refine and generalize for the describe images, with pure painting languages,he thinks through the visual and forthrightly presents the real view of reality in his eyes. The chapter four states the enlightenment of Arikha’s painting conception and work language on my artistic creation and conception, unites with my personal creative practice to sort out my creative ideas and extract the valuable experience in Arikha’s painting. As for me,the study of "Eidos" and "the Real View" of Arikha’s painting is not only a learning process, but also a summary and reflection of my learning path.As Alikha said: " Art is a breath,it passes through the breath, and it remains in the breath.”... |
