| This paper uses 60 written assignments of 30 international students from the School of International Education,Henan Polytechnic University as the corpus to summarize the characteristics and to explore the causes of errors in the use of Chinese punctuation by international students.According to the characteristics and the causes of the errors,this paper puts forwards some feasible suggestions to help international students to correctly use Chinese punctuation marks.From results of the research,three kinds of errors were found in the use of Chinese punctuation by international students,including errors of the writing form,writing format and function.According to the analyzation,the writing form errors have the following traits: 1.Writing the solid dots as hollow circles;2.Writing the hollow circles as solid dots;3.Omitting a certain part of Chinese punctuation marks.The writing format errors have the following traits: 1.The punctuation marks which need to be written in the lower left corner position but were written in the middle position;2.The punctuation marks which should be written in the middle but were written in the lower position.Functional errors has the following features: 1.Few types of punctuation marks were used by international students,only 9 kinds of 17 kinds of punctuation marks were used,and only 6 kinds of punctuation marks were used frequently;2.International students only used one kind or two kinds of the Chinese punctuational marks;3.The functional errors are universal,barely keeping consistent with different mother-tongue students;4.The types of punctuation marks used by students are also commonly used in textbooks.This paper proposes teaching suggestions from three aspects: teaching materials,teachers and students.Suggestions for teaching materials include: 1.Increasing the requirements for punctuation mastery in the syllabus,and adding punctuation practice content to the materials;2.Standardizing the usage of punctuation in teaching materials,and adding specifications for the use of punctuation to the materials.Suggestions for teachers include: 1.Improving teachers’ attention to punctuation and strengthening the learning of relevant knowledge;2.Teachers should pay attention to teaching methods in the process of punctuation teaching and adopt appropriate teaching methods.Suggestions for students include: 1.Developing the right attitude towards using Chinese punctuation marks;2.Practicing more punctuation exercises;3.Overcoming cognitive biases;4.Strengthening the learning of Chinese knowledge. |
