| Having noticed that the Senegalese EFL classes are still affected by traditional teaching methods which focus on linguistic competence to the detriment of communicative competence, this study specifically aims at investigating the newly recommended communicative language teaching methodology to see its potential effect on students’21stcentury skills development in the selected schools of the District of Tambacounda,Senegal. This research,to a larger extent,is carried out to highlight the effects of the Communicative Language Teaching approach on learners’21st century skills development and challenges faced by tecahers upon its implementation and ends with solutions to solve the problem. The research employed a mixture of a teachers’questionnaire with closed-ended questions and open-ended statements and a semi-structured interview with students to have a better understanding of the problem in relation with the research questions.By the end,we came to realize that we still need more efforts to make the CLT approach effective so that it can yield better results for learners’development.Pedagogical proposals are made and recommendations formulated to help decision-makers draw new policies to reverse the trend. |
