| In the development from primitive art to modern art,"line" has always been one of the basic elements of artistic creation.Whether it is the western Lasco cave murals or the patterns of Chinese primitive painted pottery,it can be seen that since the primitive society, human beings have begun to extract "lines" from numerous natural phenomena as a means of expression in the plane. With the continuous cognition of space, concrete art came into being. For example,in the Renaissance, with the help of perspective theory, artists began to use lines to express the sense of three-dimensional in the plane, but most of the "lines" at this time are still in two-dimensional.By the middle of the19 th century,Riemann established the concept of curvature of "Riemannian space",and people began to pursue the spatial dimension created by curves. The artist puts the "line" into the space for artistic creation. With the development of modern art, especially after World War II,minimalist artists in the 1960 s made their artistic creation geometric and three-dimensional.They showed the new aesthetic internality of "line" in their creation. At this time, the "line" was no longer in the plane. In this way,"line" has experienced four stages: from plane pattern to displaying three-dimensional relationship in plane, then to expressing spatial dimension with curve, and finally presenting in space in solid form. The research object of this paper is American Jewish artist EVA Hesse(1936-1970).Although she is classified as a representative figure of minimalism, her understanding of "line" is different from that of most minimalist artists.Other minimalist artists usually use "lines" to express the sense of boundary, while Hesse uses the ductility of lines to blur the boundary and span space, which makes Hesse also known as one of the founders of post minimalism.Taking the "artistic expression of lines" in Hesse’s works as the starting point,on the one hand, the author analyzes EVA Hesse’s artistic data, and then focuses on the "lines in space" in EVA Hesse’s works of art in combination with the research results. The research focus is not only the simple form of "line" in Hesse’s works in space, but also aims to explore its application in space and explore the personalized expression of Hesse’s artistic creation through the presentation of line in space.Firstly, this paper traces the evolution of "line" from plane to space in the history of art,and analyzes how it is expressed in modern art,so as to better understand Hesse’s works of art. Then the paper turns to the case study of Hesse, combined with Hesse’s unique life experience, analyzes the presentation relationship of "line and space" in her works, and extracts how "line" evolves and develops in her artistic creation at different stages of life. Then it explores Hesse’s unique expression of "line, surface and space",and excavates the innovative expression of "line" in the way of presentation and its personalized aesthetic connotation. Finally,it summarizes the significance of Hesse’s artistic expression of "line" to modern and contemporary art,as well as the influence and Enlightenment to the author’s artistic practice. This paper mainly discusses the development of Hesse’s artistic thought under the guidance of the theory of image analysis and psychoanalysis,so as to reveal the deep connotation contained in his works. |
