| Circular narrative film is a non-linear narrative structure.Compared to traditional linear narration, the circular narrative structure takes changing the timeline as the main artistic means to create a cyclic but constantly advancing narrative rhythm, making the film present a wonderful effect. This article aims to explore the structure and presentation effects of circular narrative films. The first aspect is about the circular narrative structure,in which the timeline branches out at the beginning of the story, presenting a "tree like narrative" pattern as a whole. In narrative, the cycle of time will change the causal relationship that people originally understood, and eliminate the concept of time flow to emphasize the state of instantaneous existence. However,at the same time, such a timeline change is not unreasonable. The timeline reset involved in the cycle has the regularity of analogy with nature, and the overlapping of timelines also plays a key role in triggering new narrative opportunities. The second aspect is about the presentation effect of circular narrative films. The plot of the story develops in a bifurcated vein, subtly advancing through repetition, until the ultimate theatrical purpose is achieved.Secondly, characters will obviously grow through setbacks. Finally, circular movies have a narrative mode of analogical games, and the new attempt of "film game integration" can bring viewers a viewing experience that is different from traditional linear narrative movies.Due to the formal particularity of the circular structure, improper handling can lead to a hypothetical nihility, resulting in an imbalance between the form and content of the film. Therefore, the film with circular structure still needs to explore the connotation behind the circular form under the premise of narration, and time is one of the inevitable topics. In summary, the thesis will explore the issue of circular narration in two aspects, namely, the narrative structure of circular films and the presentation effect of circular narrative structures, starting from time.In the final part,I will discuss the regret and reflection of creation in combination with the author’s short film "Circular". |
