| In the age of globalization,the flourishing international market has stimulated the growth of games in multiple languages versions,which gives rise to a great demand for localization and high-quality translation.More and more game companies are introducing their games to overseas markets to pursue further development including Net Ease.The English translation of China’s games,thus,is increasingly becoming important.Identity Ⅴ,the Net Ease’s first survival horror game,boasts a gothic art style,mysterious storylines and an exciting 1vs 4 gameplay.It has kept a strong track record of downloads since its publishment in 2018,which shows that the game text’s English translation,to some degree,is successful.However,the author found some translation mistakes in this English version.Therefore,out of interest in this game and its Chinese text,the author retranslated the game’s Chinese text and used it as the practice for the translation report.From the standpoint of Skopos’ s theory,this translation report takes Identity Ⅴ’s Chinese text and its retranslation as a case study to discuss the translation strategies of Chinese games.This translation report contains five parts.Chapter One includes the research’s background,questions and significance and the report’s structure.Chapter Two introduces the preparation for game text translation,including analysis of the source text,glossary collection and introduction to the game.Chapter Three introduces Vermeer’s skopos theory and its guide to mobile game translation.Chapter Four,the central part of the report,combines skopos theory with practical cases to discuss the strategies employed in the process of translation.The fifth part introduces the conclusion and limitations of the report.This report intends to attract more scholars to do further study in game text translation and offer some practical suggestions to game translation,in order that Chinese games can be properly and effectively translated and attract more overseas players. |
