Retain The Root:A Study Of Event On Compiled Genealogy Of The Yin Clan In Gulang County

Compiling a genealogy is one of the most significant collective actions in Chinese clan culture,which contains the significance of rebuilding and continuing the clan.The continuation of the genealogy of the Gulang Yin Clan in 2016 is a review and summary of the rise and development of the Gulang Yin Clan in "history",and constructs the 400 year history of the Yin Clan in its own words.In terms of "process",it was the clan elites who took the opportunity of nearly 30 years since the revision of the genealogy in 1988 to reach a consensus within the clan elite group,and thus completed the revision of the Gulang Yin clan genealogy through organizing a revision committee,collecting and organizing relevant materials,and raising funds for the continuation of the genealogy.In terms of"memory",it is mainly carried out from two aspects:physical memory and oral memory.In order to present the history of the clan more comprehensively,the genealogy editing committee has renovated the ancestral tombs,organized inscriptions,sacrificial offerings,and physical memory in the old manor,and constructed a "realistic" depiction of the lineage of the clan’s history and development;In terms of oral memory,including the narrative and debate on the origin of surnames,as well as the oral stories of reporters,from the debate on the origin of surnames to the description and recollection of ancestral stories,the non textual establishment of the Yin clan was once again carried out,reflecting the strengthening of clan consciousness by the revision of genealogy itself.This article argues that the root of a clan is a co construction under collective memory,which is the imagination and writing of ancestors by clan members.It is rooted in both ancestors and descendants.The event of the continuation of the genealogy of the Gulang Yin clan is to match the clan with the development of contemporary society,and to cope with the fragmentation residential pattern of the Yin clan by strengthening the clan awareness,so that the "root vein" will survive.In this sense,the author further observes that the Gulang Yin Clan is also connected to other clans with the same surname in other regions of China.Through the China Yin Clan National Friendship Association,the Yin C lan people share the concept of "one family in the world" and look forward to the establishment of a"diverse and integrated" national Yin Clan.This is a microcosm of the subordinate generation of the Chinese National Community through the social organization of "clans".
