Problems And Solutions In Est Interpreting From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

This report is based on the author’s English to Chinese consecutive interpreting on the mock conference of Binance Blockchain Week.Based on this EST(English for Science and Technology)interpreting practice,the author analyzes the problems encountered in interpreting and proposes corresponding solutions in the light of the Skopos theory and its three rules.The problems encountered in this interpreting practice included misinterpreting of technical terms and domain-specific expressions,redundant expressions,lack of logic,wrong information and loss of secondary information,which prevented the author from conveying the accurate information expressed by the speaker.Under the guidance of the skopos rule,the author employed the coping strategies of addition and explanation to address the misinterpreting of technical terms and domainspecific expressions.From the angle of the coherence rule,omission and restructuring were adopted to deal with redundant expressions and lack of logic in the interpreting output so as to make the target speech more comprehensible.Based on the fidelity rule,simplification and self-correction were employed to achieve the faithful conveyance of the source speech.With the help of the aforementioned coping strategies,the interpreter can achieve purposes of better communication and information transmission.
