Research On Anti-modernity In The Art Of Chaim Soutin

Emphasizing the subjective emotions and personality characteristics of artists is a significant feature that distinguishes modern art from traditional art.The art of Chaim Soutine known as the “Expressionist Artist” is a bridge between traditional and modern painting,he regards the impulse of emotion and the expression of emotion as the soul of painting,and his works present a strong individualized spiritual force to cope with the impact of photographic technology on painting.In his creation,he did not avoid the common artistic techniques of expressionism and open up other stylistic paths,but deeply explored the popular oil painting form language such as distortion and deformation,constantly excavated the thematic characteristics of “expressionism”,and tried to break through the existing spiritual expression level and create an extreme expressionist style.For Soutine,the spiritual power of expressionism was far from being discovered,and he embarked on a unique expressionist style of “outsiders”.However,from the various indications of his works,his art has a tendency to use the language of modern expressionist painting to express the spiritual essence of traditional painting.Judging from the existing oil paintings,the emotional impulses carried by Soutine’s art are more externalized to the essential spirit of traditional art.Compared with traditional works of art,the two have different stylistic forms but carry similar cultural cognitions,that is,they are committed to the development of artistic ontology and artistic personality,and they are both statements of life and interpretations of human nature,which is the core of the development of modern art.However,the modernity of art is anti-traditional,and artists strive to create an art system that is incompatible with tradition to highlight the characteristics of the times of modernity,so the excellent traditional art spirit is not well reflected in the art of modernity,and there are many problems in the development of modernity itself,so the voice of anti-modernity criticism has emerged.Soutine’s art is an important embodiment of anti-modernity,on the basis of affirming tradition,integrating the spirit of the times,showing the artistic quality of expressionist painting beyond the times,and constructing a new painting language pattern of modern art,so the “anti-modernity” in Soutine’s art is to excavate the modernity meaning of traditional painting factors,that is,to achieve the transformation of the meaning of modernity through the excavation of traditional painting factors and promote the development of modern art.With “anti-modernity” as the center,this paper discusses the formation causes and performance content of antimodernity in Soutine’s art,and analyzes and summarizes the artistic characteristics of anti-modernity in his works,highlighting the artist’s innovation of the artistic ontological language and the contribution to the development of modernity.Finally,Soutine and his artistic influence are summarized,which has an important enlightening effect on the artistic creation of Chinese and Western modern and contemporary artists.
