| People tend to associate themselves with positive adjectives or events in their selfperception, and think that negative and negative evaluations are not related to themselves, that is,there is a self-positivity bias(self-positivity bias).Self-positivity bias is closely related to self-esteem,and individuals with high explicit self-esteem tend to evaluate themselves more positively than individuals with low explicit self-esteem.Previous studies have held that explicit and implicit self-esteem are different psychological structures that may affect individuals at the same time, and the inconsistent state between explicit and implicit self-esteem means that individuals have contradictory selfknowledge and attitudes.Divided into inconsistent high self-esteem(high explicit and low implicit),inconsistent low self-esteem(low explicit, high implicit).Different types of self-esteem will have different effects on individuals in various aspects such as psychological adjustment and physical health, but how this internal difference in selfesteem affects individuals’ self-knowledge and assessment remains to be studied.College students’ cognition of themselves often has the characteristics of contradiction and instability. The cognitive research of college students will help college students to correctly position themselves, plan the future reasonably, and solve various deviations in the emotional world, thereby improving college students’ self-awareness.Based on this, the main purpose of the current research is to study the effect of inconsistent self-esteem types on self-positivity bias.In study 1,two-dimensional self-esteem scale and surname preference test were used to measure the level of explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem of ordinary college students. The results showed that there was no significant correlation between explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem.Study 2 explored the effect of inconsistent selfesteem types on self-positivity bias, including 2 experiments.Experiment 1 used a selfreferential paradigm task to allow subjects to match random positive and negative personality words with themselves and others in general, and then further score the degree of matching. The results showed that the level of explicit self-esteem can predict the performance of the subjects in the explicit task, the inconsistent high self-esteem group(high explicit, low implicit)showed the highest degree of self-positivity bias, followed by the consistent self-esteem group(medium and explicit).,medium implicit),while the inconsistency low self-esteem group(low explicit, high implicit)had only weak or insignificant self-positive biases, which was in line with the hypothesis of the current study. To further explore the role of implicit self-esteem in self-positivity bias,Experiment 2 explored the effect of inconsistent self-esteem types on implicit selfpositivity bias.Using supraliminal and subliminal attitude priming paradigms, subjects were asked to make attribute judgments on personality trait words presented under selfand others-referenced conditions. The results found that the consistent self-esteem group(moderately explicit, middle implicit)still showed self-positive bias, while among the two inconsistent self-esteem types, only the inconsistent and low self-esteem group(low explicit, high implicit)showed self-esteem Positive bias, inconsistency high self-esteem group(high explicit, low implicit)showed negative bias. The main conclusions of the current study:(1)explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem is a relatively independent mental structure;(2)of the individual self positive bias by explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem consistent degree, the influence of the type of consistency self-esteem always maintain stable self positive bias, and two inconsistent self-esteem is more sensitive to self access to relevant information, show the extreme tendency in different tasks.(3)inconsistent high self-esteem show tasks outside showing the strongest self positive bias, and show a negative bias in the implicit task.(4)less consistent low self-esteem outside show task showed no obvious positive bias, and show the strongest in the implicit task of self positive bias. |
