The Media Construction Of Modern Marriage View In Shanghai During The Republic Of China

In the 1920 s and 1930 s,Shanghai became the center of Chinese journalism.In Shanghai’s fierce newspaper competition,The Eastern Times has been able to stand firm with its reform of the news business.It can be divided into two periods of operation: the period of Di Chu Qing(1904-1921)and the period of Huang Bo Hui(1921-1939).Pay attention to the reform of new genre in the early stage,and pay attention to the reform of news subject in the late stage.In 1921,Huang Bohui took over The Eastern Times and vigorously developed sports news,photo news and social news.Among them,social news is a major feature of The Eastern Times.This paper takes the marriage news of Huang Bohui period as the research object,integrates literature research method,text analysis method,case study method,comparative research method and other methods,and discusses the construction of modern marriage view with the help of the marriage news of The Eastern Times.Taking time as the axis,this paper divides the historical context of marriage news into three periods: the initial presentation period(1921-1926),the vigorous development period(1927-1937)and the difficult period(1938-1939),and explores the characteristics of marriage news from the aspects of reporting content,reporting methods,layout and so on.Based on the marriage news report of The Eastern Times,there are three main ways to construct the modern concept of marriage and love:setting sensational news titles and displaying various marriage and love behaviors;Construct dramatic news stories that present a complex picture of love and marriage;Adopt inclined news discourse to convey diversified concepts of love and marriage.In the logic of breaking the old and breaking the old,conflict between the old and the new,and the old and the new,the traditional view of marriage and love is constantly promoted to the modern view of marriage and love.In the process of changing their thoughts on love and marriage,the new young people began to develop the concept of independence in love and marriage,and strongly attacked the traditional bad customs on love and marriage.In such a conservative and open society of the Republic of China,the contradiction between the old and new views on love and marriage caused the new young people to fight.They hoped to break the old marriage system and realize the complete freedom of marriage by suicide,running away from home,resorting to law and other positive or negative ways.As a window to understand the world,the modern concept of marriage constructed by the marriage news of The Eastern Times imperceptibly pushes the young people to constantly change their concept of marriage and love and pursue personal freedom.
